I have been working at Cymer full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There are no pros to working at Cymer. Avoid it at all costs. Don't believe CEO Jim Koonmen when he talks about empowerment.

    Cons

I hear it was a good company a long time ago, but the former CEO hired his friends and family for jobs they aren't qualified for. He's gone now and his friends and family are still enjoying crazy salaries for doing nothing. They know ASML wants them gone so they're desperate to hang on as long as they can and many are willing to lie, cheat and steal to do it.

    Advice to Management

Stop talking about empowerment when you're blowing company money on people who are liabilities to ASML.

    I worked at Cymer full-time

    Pros

The company is located in San Diego

    Cons

Multiple people in upper management come from low tech background such as automotive industry. They are not capable of understanding the technology and drive innovation. Primitive projects they are able to understand get assigned large numbers of people. Truly complicated projects get suffocated and end up being delayed or picked up by ASML.
Swearing and yelling at people is a norm.
Too many managers. Every engineers has 5 managers he has to report his results to. Group leads, team leads, project managers, project cluster managers, and so on.
Huge turnover. Most of the truly talented people get driven out resulting in knowledge gaps.
No recognition of success. Since managers are not capable of understanding the technology the credit goes to people reporting good results, not to people who actually did the work.
Shoot the messenger mentality results in people hiding anything that can displease the upper management.
Unprofessional, disrespectful, and caustic people are put in project leadership roles. Verbal abuse and insults even in public are a norm.
    Outdated, underequipped facilities.

    Pros

Competitive pay when you join, and good benefits.

    Cons

There is a Culture of Pointing Finger & dividing while pretending they was to unify is simply insulting. People are "empowered" to take action, what they don't say is, that you are empowered to do, exactly what you are told, or else you will get in trouble somehow if you push back and think. Also most of the Upper management have no idea what it takes to get things done and make commitments on a fly and make unachievable requests, bit tittles, zero understanding, they push their work on their teams, provide no additional resources, and treat us like they do us a favor by employing us. This causes people to quit all the time, go on stress leaves, start experiencing visible stress in all its forms, or simply hate each day when going to work.

    Advice to Management

Don't pretend you care about the employees with picnics, changing pictures weekly and events that just waste money, instead train your managers to be nurturing, motivating, supporting, constructive, and provide increases in salary that are at least the equal to the yearly inflation. So long as you don't show sincere appreciation, instead of just a show, you will continue to lose good people.

I worked at Cymer full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Some of the original people from when Cymer was it's own company are still there.

    Cons

Even though I think ASML has meant well they have destroyed what made Cymer a great company. Half of the company EUV section was rolled into ASML with employees are leaving or want to leave.

    Advice to Management

To late the damage is done.
