I have been working at Cypress Semiconductor full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Due to twelve - hour shifts, the workweek is three days one week followed by four days the next week, meaning that every weekend is either a three-day or a four-day weekend. There is also a decent amount of paid time off, reasonably good health insurance , dental, and disability insurance, and some paid holidays (several of them are "floating" holidays which you can use when you would like).

    Cons

There is no longer a company match on the 401(k) plan, meaning that it is generally better to just fund your own Roth or traditional IRA than to contribute to the company-sponsored 401(k) plan. Also, the company is usually short-staffed, due to what they call the "competitive" job market in Austin, meaning the company is not willing to pay what is necessary to compete (and win) in the job market.

    Advice to Management

Rather than make excuses about why it is so hard to attract workers, you should be competitive in what you pay so you can compete and win in the job market. Taking away the 401(k) match was not a good move to attract and/or retain workers.

I worked at Cypress Semiconductor full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Your co-workers are good to you if you communicate. Everyone tries hard and has grit. You have a lot of responsibility early in your career.

    Cons

You don't last without grit. I think the company is too lean and the culture punishes employees because of it.

    Advice to Management

Slowly build up experience and keep pay in line with industry standards to keep the experience. Define the strategy for improvement and stick to it. There are too many shifts in focus.

I worked at Cypress Semiconductor full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Overall hard working dedicated group of engineers. Benefits were above average. CEO valued honesty and openness.

    Cons

Expected to work >>40 hours a week, and bureaucracy made it difficult to make changes. Honesty frequently became brutal and unpleasant.

    Advice to Management

Learn to value empathy in addition to honesty in how you value employees.

I worked at Cypress Semiconductor full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There are a lot of talented people to learn from. There are many interesting technical challenges. The company is stable and profitable.

    Cons

Management is not good at scheduling product development, resulting in rework, late nights, and weekend work. Stock performance has been mediocre for the past few years.

    Advice to Management

Measure and optimize product development. Setting unrealistic deadlines doesn't help with customizers and also demoralizes staff which reduces performance.

I have been working at Cypress Semiconductor full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Smart people. If you are a circuit designer or applications engineer, I can't think of a better place to start your career. If you consistently rank in the top 10-15% of your peer group, expect to be recognized and rewarded at Cypress. Company finances are tightly managed. Many opportunities to run your own business.

    Cons

Auxiliary jobs (IT, HR, Finace, are not respected, and not empowered.
CEO was pathetic at engaging the most valuable asset of the company. In the end, he lost some of his brilliant intellect and ran on pure negative emotion. It was kind of sad to see how everyone learned to skillfully obfuscate in order to get the hell out of the boardroom. So much productivity lost. Opportunities for growth squandered.

    Advice to Management

Create an environment where we can admit mistakes and critically evaluate them with our peers. Good Compensation is needed to play, but anyone can have good compensation. Engage the engineers. Maintain enough headcount in supporting functions so engineers can focus on engineering. Timely, accurate, detailed, honest feedback is essential.

    Pros

Great hands on experience ... Cypress allows you to really learn the ropes and fine tune your execution skills.

    Cons

All areas of the company are structured as an operations project. which means there´s no room for creativity, only process execution.

    Advice to Management

    processes kill creativity

    Advice to Management

Make your forecasts more accurate about the decision timetable. You appear to not know what you are doing.
