I have been working at DB&A full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Working for DBA provides opportunities to test yourself in the way you communicated and help others develop. The possibilities on gaining knowledge on process improvement endless, and how to communicate the importance of process improvement to others. It's not easy; but, when you begin the path of developing yourself so that you can develop others, the challenges become rewarding.

    Cons

Travel is 100%, and sometimes it's difficult being away from your family, but I do know that my family is living well.

    Advice to Management

Develop your people in the way that will help foster continuous, perpetual improvement of the success of the company.

I have been working at DB&A full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You got reimbursed for everything you needed to buy. This allows you to use your own credit card and maximize your points.

    Cons

There was little to no training on how to be a consultant. If you are unwilling to go overseas you maybe let go if there is no work stateside.

    Advice to Management

Create a clear plan as to what is expected of an employee. Just do it or just make things work isn't the best for growing employees.

    I worked at DB&A full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Ha. Good luck finding any.

    Cons

Travel isn't even the worst part except you will be delayed, rerouted, and cancelled. None of which is the company's control, but you will be subjected to shoddy hotels and reprimanded for not getting a crappy car. They say that they have the employees best interest. Load of crap. Hr, management, and the long term employees will put on a show, but totally leave you high and dry. No official training, no feedback, and they will pile the work on you and expect you to know what you're doing from day 1.

    Advice to Management

I highly advise to be more transparent. Actually practice what you preach. Their inundated business model does not work. They are blind to their own feedback. Whatever they think works is the only way. No point in actually having employees other than just to have everything roll down to.

I have been working at DB&A full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Traveling the country/world to learn a new business almost every time. I've only experienced positives from every level. I've been on different types of assignments and have been treated with respect and have been taught and trained the ways of the operation.

    Cons

Traveling can be a con as well as a pro, as it can be difficult to leave your family every week. However, it is known from the very beginning that this is a 100% travel job and you choose to accept it. DBA does attempt to ease that by allowing a guest to travel at the company's expense to any location and allows the employees to travel to different locations other than your home city.

    Advice to Management

Take a look at the employee reviews and how they are scored on every level. Some of them may be able to afford some upgrading.

I have been working at DB&A full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The ability to experience numerous different industries in a relative small amount of time
The ability to immediately play a vital role in the success of a project
Lots of people who are generous with their time and willing to help you develop in to a more polished professional

    Cons

Some times the hours can be long
And in my tenure at the company they have always ensured that I got a complete 48 hours at home.

    Advice to Management

Continue to be honest and open with the associates. There are a lot of good people in the company who genuinely want to see it continue to grow and will do whatever in their power to see to it's success.

I have been working at DB&A full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

At DB&A if are open to it you are always learning. Differently than other companies where one may go years stuck doing the same repetitive work and often with the same peers, at DB&A you have the opportunity to work with fantastic characters who will challenge your perspectives and assumptions every step of the way. The variety of clients and industries with which you will work will enrich anyone's career.

    Cons

The competitive consulting industry can make for challenging times and of course that reflects on the company mood and sometimes impacts the relationship between teams.

    Advice to Management

reflects on the company mood and sometimes impacts the relationship between teams. Each group can/should continue to perform honest self-discovery and work on making the identified changes in order to keep being a competitive force in the management consulting industry.

I have been working at DB&A (More than a year)

    Pros

The amount of exposure to such an enormous amount of industries and cultures is unparalleled to any previous employer or schooling.

You are in a new and engaging industry and environment every few months, with the opportunity to volunteer for international assignments, providing continuous growth and development. The internal approach that is proven successful provides a clear path to projects. The work itself is highly rewarding.

There is a clear path of upward mobility and pay scale which are based on clear expectations. DB&A truly invests in their employees, with mentors and leaning opportunities at your disposal, but it’s up to you to take advantage of that.

The company provides full benefits and time off. In addition, you will accumulate many hotel points, airline point, and credit card points that add up. The company holds a yearly weekend event where they fly you and guest to stay at an all-inclusive resort.

    Cons

Although they should not be considered ‘cons,’ be aware that consulting positions in general are one of the most demanding and prestigious jobs, regardless of which firm you are in. Given that, you are expected to work long hours at times, perform at a very high level, and they require you to adapt and learn very quickly in order to grow and be successful. Given all of this, consulting work is not for everyone. This particular firm requires 100% travel - Sunday night through Friday morning.

    Advice to Management

As always, continue to drive for improvement. Consider the pay scale and/or travel requirements in order to attract younger and/or experienced pool of employees. Although there is much support provided, continue to provide and develop some companywide procedures, concepts, etc. to increase development in newer consultants.

    I worked at DB&A full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

They are working on improving the working conditions and they have done so since initial hire date.

    Cons

Travel and work conditions can be tough. Upper management is trying to improve, but most have been unable to adapt to changing work environment which makes things far more political and less based on results and work accomplishments (who you know vs what you know and did).

    Advice to Management

When things are not going according to plan, especially financially, place the blame on those who have caused it and not reduce staff from highest levels. Quit hiring when work isn't available and honor the "commitment" to the longer term employees, not the new hires.

I have been working at DB&A full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very challenging both intellectually and technically. Travel expenses reimbursed plus daily per diem. Very intelligent colleagues to work with and be challenged by to improve yourself. Work with assigned clients for about 6 months and watch them improve, perform better and generate productivity and efficiency improvements, then move to new client company to consult. You are able to progress as quickly and as high in the company as you are willing and capable of.

    Cons

Cell phone, data plan, computer and personal credit card required. High stress and result expectations with long work days. 100% travel Fly out on Sunday evening. Fly home on Friday afternoon.

    Advice to Management

Review the performance and competency process to ensure every employee receives annual performance reviews. Many of us get lost in the Project Managers limited time and multiple priorities.
