I worked at DC Shoes full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It's a great skate shop brand to work for and you have the correct support from corporate as well as having a great customer base with lots of kids and young adult clothes.

    Cons

Around the holidays you tend to have to work a lot of late shifts and at times we were not staffed correctly.

    Advice to Management

Be prepared for slow pace most days but weekends and holidays are crazy.

I worked at DC Shoes full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great culture with fun events and casual atmosphere
Felt like I had places inside the company I could progress to
A strong sense of aesthetic and brand identity gave a great feeling of cohesion
Fostered a strong sense of pride in well made products

    Cons

Felt lost in the larger corporate structure of Quiksilver INC
Lack of employee involvement from middle and upper management
Since it was part of a larger corp that was heading towards bankruptcy funds were in short supply

    Advice to Management

Separate from Quiksilver and become an independent company again
Create a better system for people to interact with peers who work in higher positions to help improve the promotion process.
Move people up instead of hiring from outside

I have been working at DC Shoes part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Great company values.
    Great staff.
    Awesome customers.
Discounts are amazing, online and in store.

    Cons

Hard to Move up for easily trained positions.
    Lack of product.
Horrible pay and no raises in years.
Favoritism is by far the worst I've ever seen!
Extremely inflexible when important personal events arise.
Feeling like corporate ignores small requests for products that would make perfect sense.

    Advice to Management

Promote from within, especially when staff has the knowledge of how to succeed in these positions. Make hours fair. Give more recognition. Enough with the false promises

I have been working at DC Shoes full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Amazing people with an immense amount of talent. Great opportunities to show and grow talents and experience. Located in Orange County, just a few miles from waves.

    Cons

Extremely held back by it's parent company and top level leadership. Retirement benefits are a little more than absent. Work culture and environment is bad with the constant fear of being laid off (10+ rounds within the past 4 years).

    Advice to Management

Your captain is sinking the ship, mate.

  9. "Was a great place...then we got a new CEO and everything went downhill"

    StarStarStarStarStar
    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee
    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

Discount, cafe, gym, co-worker benefits were ok but year after start getting worse

    Cons

No room for advancement. Great reviews year after year but only max raise in budget of 3%. People lack common knowledge and basic software; many people who's jobs are based heavly around excel and they hardly know how to use it. Constant baby sitting and following up with other departments because a lot of people don't own their responsibilities. Lack of any job security wondering everyday if your department will be the next outsourced to EU.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your employees. I spent many years at dc and was a great employee but the lack of respect for average employees is ridiculous since the new CEO took over. The brand is dying and all the good people are jumping ship.
