I have been working at DDN Storage full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible work environment. Lots of autonomy and ability to make a difference. Interesting work. Great compensation and benefits and wellness programs such as various healthcare options and Step Challenge, and onsite exercise classes for some of the locations. Great effort by HR team to make DDN a good place to work and show that the company does care about its employees.

    Cons

Needs to remove stagnant, uneducated, unsophisticated workforce who are not putting in their shares to make the company grow and be more successful. These complacent employees have been allowed to do what they want and need to be exited immediately.

Middle management needs to communicate better and protect their staff from senior management. They are being paid the big bucks to do buffer the messaging, but instead are just CYA'ing.

    Advice to Management

To Sr. Level Management: Support your management and HR teams to do more for the employees even if you can't do it yourselves. More goodwill be good for your employees.

Figure out a way to exit those that aren't progressive and been around too long and continue to be comfortable with watching the clock and not making an effort to change or be better. Bring in fresh blood with new and different ideas which they got from other companies. These old timers are not loyal (and are just protecting their own skin) and are very threatened by "new" blood as they know that these incoming members are much better than them.

Do both of the above and your 3-4 star ratings are not too far behind.

    Pros

    - The majority of coworkers are good at what they do.
    - Benefits are on par for an SMB.
    - Opportunities for learning something new exists, but must be fought for.

    Cons

    - Management is bad. The higher up the pyramid, the worse it gets.
    - Overall compensation package is a little lower than competitors.
    - Employees are often stretched to limits due to poor management decisions.
    - Mobility is almost non-existent. Be prepared to leave in order to grow.

    Advice to Management

Invest more money and time into engineering rather than sales.

I worked at DDN Storage (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The compensation is good in comparison to companies in the area.

    Cons

Owners and management does not respect their employees. Too high turnover of good employees. Lack of strategic planning. Still working as a very small business doing business day by day. Low moral and overworking people. Many reviews on Glassdoor were negative and an email was sent out to upper management to write positive reviews to offset.

    Advice to Management

Maintain the good people and learn to be a corporation.

I worked at DDN Storage (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There are very few pros. The people doing the real work are great. There is a decent chance to learn, if you can get approval. The customers *can* be fun to work with. Some managers are doing a great job.

    Cons

Employees are treated very poorly. It's confusing to see any positive reviews here, it makes me question if there are valid, or were requested by the company. Some customers can be hard to work with, because they are not happy.

The rating system here doesn't allow for 0 stars, so I'm forced to give 1 star.

    Advice to Management

Start treating your employees with dignity and respect. Don't give in to the advice pushed on you, instead do what's right, and take care of your employees. Proper work/life balance is important, don't let employees burn themselves out.

    Pros

Good people in the field, good products

    Cons

Frequent huge upheavals in management, causing big layoffs.

    Advice to Management

Learn how to manage. Learn how to work WITH the people before laying them all off. I got hit in one such bloodbath; I hear they've done it again since. The 'brain drain' they must experience is keeping them from really being a strong company.

I have been working at DDN Storage full-time

    Pros

Lots of opportunity for interesting work and additional responsibility if you are self-motivated, hard-working, and curious. The engineering group is small enough that you can make a real difference between success and failure.

    Cons

By-and-large there is not a sense that upper management is on your side. It's not exactly like you are on your own, but it can fell like it sometimes. There is not a lot in the way of training. If you are self-motivated and can work and learn independently then you can be successful, but don't rely on others to make you successful.

    Advice to Management

Invest in training employees in whatever function they are in. Invest in continuous improvement across all functions of the company. Do not rely on random improvements from random individuals.

I worked at DDN Storage full-time

    Pros

Nice people just trying to make a living. Decent benefits.

    Cons

Terrible morale. Owners who only care about how much money they can keep in their own pockets. Layoffs every few months. They have one bad quarter and they have a string of layoffs. The company runs extremely lean which results in overworked, under appreciated and exhausted staff. Bonuses and merits are often token gestures if they're provided. They are not based on performance but rather who is liked the best.

    Advice to Management

The owners need to stop being so damn greedy and understand that without their workforce, they are nothing. Show some gratitude, appreciation and reward.

    - Management is horrible, No respect for employees.
    - No project management, Program management are calendar admin.
    - Worse ever CMO.
    - CTO is a fake role, no vision, mainly HW focus.
