    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at DFS Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There are a lot of growth opportunities for employees. As long as you want to try, most likely you can make it to a better position.

    Cons

Because it is easy to grow in the company, the standard for getting a management position is very low. That leads to bad management. Every time we launch some events, contests, or programs; there would be tons of problems popping out. Lack of communication within managers and employees. They have weird schedules and SOPs. The SOP(standard of operation) is always change, and they never really follow what the employee handbook states. Poor Poor Poor benefits and pay.

Easy job made difficult through micro managing. Horrible management, sad excuse of human beings.. They should all be fired for the benefit of the company. Snobby coworkers that gossip all day long.

    Pros

A truly multi-cultural environment will 1st-tier talents from the industry. Very structured and visionary company, CEO is awesome!

    Cons

Remuneration packages can be very different for locals vs expats, race matters more than competence and experience. Hierarchical organisation, one decision would take 10 cross-functional meetings and perhaps 8 senior management to approve, and that also result in power struggle and office politics. It is a highly political organisation.

    Advice to Management

Lean organisational structure. We don't need that many VPs.
Please also hire people who can really do their job instead of hiring them because of their nationalities.

    Cons

Brand ambassadors ,Cashier ,service support hourly 13-16$/h
    No commission
Terrible management from team lead to Manager.
    Bad working environment
Management don't fully understand the company rule

I worked at DFS Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Possibly one of the most multicultural office in HK given that DFS is global travel retail business, and the global HQ is in HK. Great opportunity to grow for early career starters. From Day 1, hands on big projects, work with smart people, and get inroduced to cross functional, cross border teamwork. Ability to work with best brands in retail including from Beauty, Fashion, Watches Jewlery, and Food while developing product knowledge.

    Cons

Very big salary gap between local and expats even when they are basically titled to same position and do similar scale of work. Senior management need to listen more to what is actually happening on grassroot level instead of aiming big or directing projects that seems unproductive or is a bit far fetched while wasting everyone's time (afterall, time is limited. We cant do everything so where to focus the energy?) I was an MT, but even from my perspective, some MTs were just too favoritized by senior management, therefore buying skeptical looks from other level employees (like reporting or giving presentation directly to senior management on projects, when actually their experience level havent matured and there are better employees who can take up this chance)

    Advice to Management

Listen to the grassroots. Executionability comes from them. They know their shiz. They work hard and dont like wasting their time. Observe them more, instead of swinging left or right depending on what makes you look good, what sounds good, what your intuition tells you. Grassroots and management must meet in the middle to imrpove business.
