I have been working at DHG full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Solid pay, 401k match, Company actually listens to employees lives and tries to balance work and life as good as they can for the nature of public accounting.

    Cons

Training is lacking some and favoritism plays a big part between some managers and staff.

I have been working at DHG full-time for more than 2 years

      Pros

Gain a lot of experience while working with a lot of big companies in the eastern and southern regions. Job requires travel which gives the auditor a chance to work and explore new cities.

      Cons

Profession comes along with what is referred to as "busy season". It will require a lot of time, hard work, and devotion.

I worked at DHG full-time for more than 4 years

      Pros

They provide a lot of CPE to new and existing staff. Most employees below manager level are fun to work with. You sometimes have the ability to work from home depending on the time of year.

      Cons

Management consistently tries to operate at a minimum staffing level to maximize profits. They are aggressive with when you can and when you cannot take time off and you often have to explain what you want to do with your time off. Charge hours are monitored on a weekly basis and you can expect to get called out whenever you don't meet your scheduled chargeable hours for the week even though you may be on track for or...

      Advice to Management

Stop limiting the time that employees can take time off to 3-4 months out of the year. Hire more people. Stop burning out high performers with heavier workloads and spend more time to develop underperforming staff.

I have been working at DHG full-time for more than 2 years

      Pros

      Flexible, great people, relaxed environment

      Cons

Its public accounting so busy season always kind of sucks but its not as bad here as some other places from what I've heard.

      Positive Outlook

I have been working at DHG full-time for more than a year

      Pros

Great people to work with depending on office, mostly mid-size clients so the experience is a great variety, salary is competitive, and hours never go as high as my friends' hours in Big4 jobs.

      Cons

They're still growing so there are a lot of pains (marketing, staffing, etc.) Seems like they're wanting to be a Big4 too much with their growth strategies, they need to calm down on that a bit - if I wanted to work for Big4, I would've gone to one! Employee feedback and evaluation mechanisms need updating.

      Advice to Management

Focus on your current clients before you go out and win several more millions in new engagements. In some offices the work growth outpaces staffing growth to the point that clients get neglected and engagements take way too long. Remember that client service made DHG successful, not prestige or book of business.

I have been working at DHG full-time for more than 2 years

      Pros

Flexibility, the people, their efforts to promote work life balance and to host many social events throughout the year, much better hours than working at larger big-4 type firms

      Cons

Public accounting, emphasis on meeting budgets that are sometimes unrealistic

I have been working at DHG full-time for more than 2 years

      Pros

Specialization from day one, good work/life balance, excellent relationships with co-workers, effective evaluation process

      Cons

Racism and sexism still exist in this culture, management encourages auditors to disregard issues in order to keep clients happy, communication can be guarded at times when it really should be open

      Advice to Management

Let go of archaic southern schools of thought and develop your female and minority staff rather than hiring hoardes of dweeby white men who have no future in public accounting

I have been working at DHG full-time for more than 2 years

      Pros

Other employees and partners of the firm care about each other and there is a team atmosphere where people are willing to help each other. There is flexibility on the job and everyone is easy to work with. The travel is not as bad as at other firms.

      Cons

There is still some out of town work. There is a lot of work to do during the typical audit busy season.

      Advice to Management

Management is good at creating a positive culture and atmosphere, but sometimes it seems like the compensation is not the same as at bigger firms.
