    I worked at DHG full-time

    Pros

The people at DHG are exceptional! Your team becomes your family, as you spend all of your time with them.

    Cons

The work-life isn't always great. Public accounting firms expect a lot during the busy season, which most people knew going into the job. However, depending on the industry you work in, the rest of the year can be just as busy.

      I worked at DHG

      Pros

DHG provides a good basis for experience in public accounting. The Southern firm culture is positive. There is support for taking the CPA exam while employed.

      Cons

Like any public accounting firm, tax season hours and stress cause burn out very easily. Work life balance is advertised to new hires but not a reality.

I have been working at DHG full-time for more than 20 years

      Pros

Management is very intelligent and has a great open door policy. The Benefits package was excellent, as was the time off policy and having a work life balance.

      Cons

Due to many different mergers the small accounting firm feel is in the past and the upper management has more of a concern on the bottom line than their employees needs.

      Advice to Management

In consideration to the geographic location the salaries are not as competitive as competitors and staff is overworked and under appreciated.

I worked at DHG full-time for more than 2 years

      Pros

The company really allows you to get experience in a variety of areas including individual tax, federal tax and state and local tax, as well as the opportunity to work with various types of entities. They give you a lot of freedom (no "big brother" watching over you) and allow you to self-manage and really take ownership of your work. The health benefits were good, a lot of options. Plus, the amount of time off was very...

      Cons

Company culture is lacking. There was little communication and camaraderie among the general areas (tax, audit and consulting). The "tone from the top" seemed a little too focused on making money and not on taking care of their employees. The overtime was really draining, which is pretty typical of public accounting firms, but that doesn't make it right. There were almost no...

      Advice to Management

Give employees an incentive to go above and beyond, and work on creating a more inclusive culture.

        Advice to Management

Management has done well with the recent merger (April 2011) between Dixon Hughes and Goodman & Co. The merger has combine two very vibrant organizations and we are continuing to understand the strengths of each organization and the synergies created with the the merging of the two organizations.
