    Pros

Started with ~17% market share at merger with Airborne.
    Decent benefits. Decent Promotion opportunities.
Airborne brought excellent National Accounts like IBM, Dupont, Xerox, Glaxo, and Technicolor.

    Cons

DHL european management flocked to the US operation, replaced many excellent managers with their own people, and refused to listen to Airborne managers/VPs who knew how the domestic US operation ran. Remember that DHLs domestic US operation was less than 10% of what Airborne's was at time of merger. DHL arrogance killed the domestic US operation.

    Advice to Management

None offered as they don't/won't listen.

    Pros

It was a great place for exposure as I was not only on the operations team but also actively participated in the engineering team.

    Cons

The work wasn't very intellectually satisfying because logistics seem to be quite an easy industry. However, I think that it really trains your logic.

I have been working at DHL Express full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Opportunity, development, travel, growth, market leader

    Cons

salary, hours, inconsistent direction, lack of innovation, out dated senior management.

    Advice to Management

Major decisions are made from out-dated manager experience, not current day analysis. Practise what you preach in FC.

I worked at DHL Express full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great company to work for. If you're just starting out in shipping and logistics this is the place to be. You will end up doing far more than your job description. While it could be a negative, it can actually help you by expanding your experience and skills in many areas beyond. I'm thankful for the experience.

    Cons

Management from the top executive branch down to higher levels and middle management were clueless on how to create and organic environment. It was far much more about egos and power and less about running a business operation successfully.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your customers, listen to your people first and foremost. Identify the key areas and physical locations where quality is low and come up with real world solutions for improving the processes, the quality, the customers experience and seek to grow and innovate.

    Pros

The pay is very competitive with other like companies. Benefits are also competitive and one of the strongest assets that DHL provides.

    Cons

The work environment is extremely stressful, with upper management seemingly out of touch or unwilling to communicate the true state of affairs. Various corporate initiatives to improve productivity and decrease costs have met with complete failure due to unrealistic expectations and lack of patience on the part of upper management. The need for instant gratification by senior management has never allowed initiatives to take hold and produce results. Instead, the managers responsible for implementing these initiatives had their hands tied with immediate budget cuts and rampant micromanagement.

    Advice to Management

Be open and honest with employees. Get rid of the managers who rule by intimidation and fear. Unfortunately those are the managers who seem to be rewarded.

I have been working at DHL Express full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Company invests in infrastructure and employees. Good awareness from Board Memebrs that front line employees are what makes the company. Good employee incentives and engagement.

    Cons

Little manoeuvring within the career ladder. Lots of employees with long length of service stay within same role so there is no room for younger talented employees. First line managers can sometimes be too focussed on productivity and cost targets. Forgetting about staff morale and customers.

    Advice to Management

I worked at DHL Express full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Close knit community, fast paced environment, structured processes and Key Performance Indexes, personal development possible with intra-corp training courses

    Cons

High stress environment, limited progression possibilities once reaching management levels, very cliquish, certain areas empower bully management tactics, KPI's unreasonably applied to all locations from HQ in DE without consideration for the alternating infrastructures.
