I have been working at DHL Express full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Inside Sales with DHL Express Direct Channel Sales is a great development platform to set you up for success. This department takes pride in developing and ramping up young professionals towards their career path they are looking towards with DHL. Youthful culture. Highly driven and determined professionals. The coaching culture is motivating to always be gaining and working towards expectations. Internal events are fun and engaging throughout the year. Monthly birthday lunch is always a nice perk to look forward too.

    Cons

This role is a role that you are not expected to stay long term in. If you are comfortable staying in your role, its welcome of course but ultimately there are a lot of new faces throughout the year because of reps taking their promotions after 12 - 18 months in the role.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the needs of your team and identify and development gaps.

    Pros

The company values it's employees and respects them more than UPS does.
Solid vision and strategy for growth in the future.
Entrepreneurial spirit, where employee recommendations are taken into account.
Opportunities for career advancement, working in other countries, learning about global commerce.

    Cons

Some positions expect double-hatting (performing multiple roles), but I believe that is a trend in many companies these days.

    Advice to Management

Assign the proper scope of responsibilities to leaders of key areas to enable their success.

I worked at DHL Express full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits package is great, vacations are easy to take, off every holiday (if you're not in customer service), good food and lounge area

    Cons

Have to work every holiday (if in customer service), hours are screwed up and never the same (which is OK if you're single), OT mandatory in peak season

    Advice to Management

STOP micromanaging and employees would be more dedicated

Current Employee - Package Handler in Erlanger, KY
    Recommends
    Neutral Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at DHL Express part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Decent starting pay and benefits considering how easy it is to get hired
    - Pretty casual environment, people are generally cool and helpful
    - Easy and rewarding work once you get your footing, that you don't have to take home
    - Good sense of camaraderie and working towards a common goal
    - Co-workers often notice and appreciate hard work (even if the supervisors don't)

    Cons

    - Depending on the schedule they give you, you could end up working mornings one day then nights the next. Keeps your sleeping habits constantly in flux
    - High turnover, so you're often picking up the slack from new people who are having to learn as they go thanks to inadequate training
    - Disconnected leads who will remove people from an area and send them somewhere else if the volume happens to be low for a moment, then when it picks back up you're undermanned
    - Very little chance for upward mobility, despite what the recruiters say
    - Top pay for a package handler is pretty low, and in the amount of time you have to stick around to reach it you could go to college and get a better job

    Advice to Management

    - Make training actually worthwhile: focus on helping people do their jobs instead of rote memorization of corporate practices that mean nothing when you're out in the operation. - Admonish people who just stand around chatting and appreciate those who are having to pick up their slack so they can leave at a decent hour
