    Pros

    Fun projects are all around

    Cons

Stupid people screw up fun projects and then the wrong people get fired.

    Advice to Management

WAKE UP ! Look through your archives and check out the neat projects you over looked

I worked at DHX Media full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-Great team of people to work with
-Supervisors are always friendly, easy to talk to and are always willing to help you even for the smallest detail. In my experience, my previous supervisors would take the whole team on a team lunch at the end of every completed episode which is a great opportunity to meet your teammates and socialize because you're normally glued to the screen eight hours a day and barely talk to anyone.
-DHX provides free coffee, and a variety of bagged and loose leaf teas. And once in a while people will bring treats to the whole floor which is a great thing when you're feeling bummed or tired.
-Every year DHX throws a Summer BBQ/Party with hotdogs and burgers and special treats and drinks on every floor and several activities and games to play.
-During the summer months, DHX provides 'half days' where you can leave work around 1:00pm to enjoy the sunshine, as long as you're not far behind in your work.

    Cons

-The pay is a bit low especially for living in Vancouver. You'll definitely need to find a roommate because studios and 1bdrs are unaffordable. But if you keep working your way up the pay gets better.
-The work day is from 9-6 now which really sucks. It feels as though upper management thinks it can get more out of you the longer you stay but it's the complete opposite. The nine hour day really sucks the life out of you and makes you get work done slower.

    Advice to Management

9-6 is INCREDIBLY mentally taxing on your employees. We're people, not machines and we need to rest. DHX may boast about having Work/Life Balance, but there really isn't much Life happening when you finally get home at 7:00 and it's almost time for bed.

    Pros

Great environment, hard working lads. Easy to learn and grow.

    Cons

Hard to introduce new ideas because of old tech and old seniors hard headedness

    Advice to Management

Willing to listen to ideas. New recruits often are up to date of the newest technical advancement in software and can help increase workflow.

    Pros

Easy place to get hired for entry positions.
    Health benefits.

    Cons

    Pay is low.
    Turn over rate is high.
Depending on the production, management fails to mitigate excessive workload.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. Pay accordingly and fairly. Create attractive IPs. Or else valuable artists will just work elsewhere.

    Pros

-Lots of great people, a friendly environment where everyone is always willing to lend a helping hand.
-Good work-life balance. Ability to work from home when needed.
-An amazing barista who serves caffeine with a smile every morning.
-Valuable opportunities to develop great experience and learn new skills.
-The company welcomes interns and whenever possible, keeps them on after their internship.

    Cons

-Communication between senior management isn't the greatest, although it looks like the company is taking corrective measures.
-The company operates in silos and there isn't enough collaboration and communication between the different offices/departments.

I worked at DHX Media full-time

    Pros

Excellent building, lots of different jobs, some great artists, chance of growth (although very relative)

    Cons

Way too hierarquical, upper management only listens to supervisors and above. No open doors culture: people are afraid of making complaints because they fear retaliation. People are seen as numbers and the obvious low morale is only noticed when they start leaving. And even so, the problem is seen as keeping the others, not on fixing the roots of the dissatisfaction.
There are many career opportunities, but once you get stuck in an undesirable position it is extremely hard to get out. I have seen many excellent artists getting extremely frustrated for being thrown on mechanical non-creative jobs and having to put up with bureaucratic nonsense for months (even years) to end. Then some would leave the company and magically started to do great somewhere else.

    Advice to Management

Try to actually listen to the artists making the shows. Make it not a non-menacing environment for people to tell if something is going wrong, even if it is through anonymous questionnaires. If many people from a team are complaining about a supervisor or a project in general, openly ask the others if it is also affecting them instead of assuming there is a small group of rebellious lunatics.
Be open to actually letting people look for a different path inside the company. Sometimes someone is not doing so well at a task/project but could be great at another. Workers' happiness matters!
