I have been working at DICK'S Sporting Goods part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Learning the technical side of the game. Becoming more confident in products and sharing knowledge with the customers. The discount is nice because golf is an expensive hobby/lifestyle/profession.

    Cons

Golf is not considered an important department by DSG. Golf is highly detailed and precise when it comes to equipment. Customers rely on DSG’s employees to be knowledgeable as well as personally invested with great experience, especially when it comes to golfers. Golf is no longer a protected department and for some reason DSG thinks they can just “train” other employees to provide adequate service to golf customers. I would not want to buy anything from someone that doesn’t play the game and received their gold experience from a book. It’s a slap in the face to those of us who take our job seriously and love the game of golf.

    Advice to Management

Hire more people who actually play golf, not hackers, to oversee the companies interests in golf. If DSG is serious about growing in this area of the company, this should be considered. I’d also like to meet those in charge of our inventory. They can’t possibly be golfers. I’d like to ask DSG if they are aware that women play golf as well. Judging by the amount and quality of product both in equipment and apparel, DSG is begging women not to play.

    I worked at DICK'S Sporting Goods full-time

    Pros

They gave us time to be in our own department, but if needed, other workers or managers that were close by would help out when I was swamped and needed a question answered on the spot. True team mentality.

    Cons

Some of the hours on weekends weren't the greatest and the doors were locked on morning shifts and you had to know a special code to call on intercom to people in the back that wasn't provided on training day
