I have been working at DICK'S Sporting Goods full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Some stores have fun associates
    Schedule flexibility
    Medical is decent
    401k plans

    Cons

This company promotes "Yes men", to avoid any risk at all costs. If they were in Silicone Valley, they'd be the ones promoting USPS over email. They do not value independent ideas that could be slightly risky. They do not value open communication, and their coders and technology is awful, it is behind the times by centuries, I'm pretty sure they use the Chinese method of smoke signals between coders. And the store management is full of imbeciles, they stay in the office all day, don't help on the floor, then have the audacity to chastise the associates about poor customer service. Well, monkey see, monkey do. It is an awful environment that lays stagnant, festering in it's own inability and unwillingness to grow. They continue to allow awful management to get away with murder, which causes strife within the stores. This in turn, leads to awful customer service because store associates do not care since there is no level of respect shown by the management. They cut hours drastically, still expect overworked and understaffed stores to achieve fantastic results for the $8/hr the people make. They fail to realize that with their technology lacking in such an extreme way, the only thing they have going for them is customer service. Which is become minute, since management fails to manage their people, take risks, and at this point I'm convinced they've lost touch as to what a real reward is.

    Advice to Management

"Those who dare to fail miserably, can achieve greatly"-JFK, a great quote from a great leader. Take some risks, you will reap rewards. I think it's time the Stack family sells out before Brick and Mortar stores tank anymore. It would take a serious overhaul of most of their systems to even begin to keep up with online retailers. I'm fairly certain my Arduino hardware could compute more information with its motorized fan and led lights than their fastest MC-40.

    Pros

The people you work with are the only pros I can think of. You can meet some good people there

    Cons

Managers are lazy seems to be that every time you move up in this company it gives you the right to do less. There's a lot of open to close shifts. Managers expect you to do a lot for a minimum wage pay.

I have been working at DICK'S Sporting Goods part-time

    Pros

Most of the employees are very nice people.

    Cons

    The pay sucks
You have the potential to get fired for being sick. I got into an accident, ended up in the hospital and had food poisoning and I got a warning.
We are under-staffed ALL OF THE TIME.
    Everyone is a janitor apparently.
They don't care when you do really great things for the company, yet they always have a comment when you make a minute mistake.
    Don't expect a raise.
    Don't expect any benefits
    Don't expect paid vacation/sick days
    Don't expect consistent hours
This job will not pay for your rent/car insurance/ etc.

    Advice to Management

Stop treating us like we're kids; we are all adults. Don't belittle us for asking simple questions, we don't know everything, that's why we aren't managers! And don't expect us to do the impossible: be the only one assigned to a section on a Saturday and take care of everything and everyone and then get pissed off when we don't get to everything. I'm not a machine!! I'm a person and I'm not getting paid to act like a machine anyways!! Pay your employees accordingly and trust that we will provide great services.

I worked at DICK'S Sporting Goods full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Beautiful facility with great amenities.

    Cons

I understand retail is in a rough place right now, but the work environment here is sliding downhill fast. Leadership makes last minute changes that shake the entire organization, without little thought or care to those it effects. Management has no consideration for work/life balance. I was getting texts and calls until midnight on Sunday. The culture is very unprofessional with little to no collaboration across teams (or even within them). There is a great divide between young talent who knows nothing better than this work environment and top heavy leadership that lacks the skills to develop anyone beyond completing operational tasks.

    Advice to Management

Push back to leadership and do not subject your reports to overpromises. Slow down to address current problems within the company before it is too late for this sinking ship.
