I worked at DICK'S Sporting Goods part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You get a discount, but you can't use the discount on items on clearance so still very expensive. Relatively laid back work environment. Easy job. Low pay, not much opportunity to move through the company. Not a bad summer job.

    Cons

Kind of boring. Lots of the tasks are tedious like signage, recovering the store, and constant greeting. Holiday season is hell because its retail. Also, you are stuck with the schedule you get for a good chunk of that time. You can try to get people to cover, but it rarely works out in my experience. Try to work in footwear if you can.

    Advice to Management

    Keep on keeping on.

I worked at DICK'S Sporting Goods part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Helped open new store in Latham, NY. Met some great people and for the most part, an easy going atmosphere.

    Cons

Run like a mad house, with it being such a large store, the ratio of managers to employees was too large. No direction, often times standing around with nothing to do because management couldn't keep up with the amount employees that were there.

    Advice to Management

Stop being lazy and keep track of the employees that work underneath you. There is no reason that the store should be run this poorly.

    Pros

It's a relatively laid back environment, co-workers are enjoyable if you're younger, mostly good college job

    Cons

The pay is terrible, and opportunities for advancement are really limited. Management at this location was brutal

    Corporate likes to commit cannibalism
Corporate holds store to unrealistic goals

Management is never on the same page and they do not treat the associates like people. They don't take your thoughts or feelings into consideration they just do what makes them look best.

I worked at DICK'S Sporting Goods part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Coworkers were all very friendly, a good summer job to have if you like being busy and working with people. Upbeat environment

    Cons

Was a very vigorous job in apparel compared to some of the other positions there. Extremely vigorous for the pay. Some managers were very discouraging toward employees. Overall was very tiring in the apparel position.

    Advice to Management

    Treat/encourage employees better.

I worked at DICK'S Sporting Goods (More than a year)

    Pros

We're active, communication is needed, must be quick on your feet and customer friendly.

    Cons

Crappy pay for the amount of running around you do, must have a flexible schedule. Worked for 2 years and never got a raise

    Advice to Management

Could be allitle more friendly and flexible with pay to employees who are clearly more experienced than the brand new employees. Commission would be nice

I worked at DICK'S Sporting Goods part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

the co-workers are what makes it great. Everyone is young and has energy.

    Cons

the discount, always new managers, and sometimes bad workers get put into the mix but managers will not fire them (happened on multiple occasions) so the rest of the team had to pick up the slack. I also was not allowed water under my register even though I would be talking to customers for 6 + hours
