    Pros

Sad as it is to say, but the only sense of fulfillment a part time employee of Dick's receives comes that first time he or she makes a purchase with his or her employee discount.

    Cons

Dick's Sporting Goods embodies every poor quality one can imagine to describe a bad employer. Your schedule is erratic, and your hours are constantly cut. They are notorious for removing lunch breaks from your paychecks, regardless of whether or not you took them. They disrespect employees, while simultaneously expecting these employees to run an entire department and handle customers alone. PAY IS TERRIBLE... I started at $8/hr with promises of future raises, and was content with that. 2.5 years into my tenure I was only making $8.24. Managerial requests for my (and all other employees') raises were denied every time. Dick's is the worst place I have ever worked.

    Advice to Management

Respect your employees. Be realistic with your expectations--one person working a six hour shift cannot run the department from open to close. Payroll cuts are obscene... a store cannot be run effectively without reasonable manpower.

    Pros

    hourly pay not too bad
job was close to my house
MOST of my fellow associates were awesome to work with!

    Cons

As far as management goes? This was the worse place i have ever worked! As an associate you get talked down to on a regular basis..unless of course, you are one of the managers "pets". Though i wasn't a cashier i often felt sorry for the CONSTANT pressure them folks had put on them to push them ole scorecards and St. Judes donations. Hours were constantly cut, so having any consistency in a paycheck was just ridiculous. I often heard CSM's plotting bad hours for other front enders that they didnt like. You often got overlooked for your hard work but they sure let you know if you made a mistake.

    Advice to Management

It would really help if management stopped talking down to their associates. Remember: you put your pants on just like the rest of us. Management positions should be done with both good leadership and humility. You know you have a problem when even your customers notice the way management talks to staff ( this happened to me and luckily for me THAT customer made a note of it and told me they were calling corporate on the matter)

    Pros

If you like working in a Sports store and not doing much then Dicks is the place for you. The staff is nice and the managers leave much to be desired. If you just need a job this is the place to be.

    Cons

    no benefits
leads in the building act like team members
Managers need to manage and not worry about their next level
hire people that want to work not just have a title in the building
solve issues in the building proactively and not waiting till after the fact
stop putting so much pressure on frontend about the score cards

    Advice to Management

    manage your building as professional
recongnize poor performers and deal with them accordingly
allow certain position to do their jobs fully

    Pros

The starting rate of pay is $8.50.

    Cons

Poor hours and some bad associates. Associates would try to make you look bad so that they could keep their jobs. The manager's will allow it to happen.

    Advice to Management

Try to have an open relationship with your employees and it will work out better for you in the long run. They just seemed like they didn't care much about employees.

    Pros

Nice co-workers and a nicely organized store

    Cons

Horrible experience with management. They were extremely critical and assigned blame whenever possible, and approached issues in a negative way. Also, no technology whatsoever. There's 2 computers for online orders, and price checking is a nightmare.

    Advice to Management

Find a better way to train employees.

    Pros

To have access to the newest Nike and Under Armour gear as well as the newest golf equipment. An associate discount is nice, but it is still too small.

    Cons

Management can be extremely rude and unpredictable. They don't pay well and the shifts and hours are unfavorable. There is also no stock purchase plan which is no good.

    Advice to Management

They need to stop being so stingy with their payroll and start hiring more staff to adequately support each department in the store. Too often the company is shorthanded and are customers are left waiting for too long.

    Pros

There aren't many, the discount is decent.

    Cons

Compensation isn't fair, upper management doesn't take documented serious feedback seriously. Schedules are on a needed basis, mistreatment is common place. lack of respect. Pretty much the worst place I have ever worked.

    Advice to Management

evaluate your leaders at all levels, compensate employees fairly. Try to run a company in which you actually know what's going on. Upper management needs to be more diverse.

    Pros

    Comraderie and the sales discount.

    Cons

    Benefits, pay, lack of leadership

    Advice to Management

Leadership needs to actually lead instead of trying to get each bonus for themselves they could actually share it with the employees that got it for them.

    Pros

The original store manager was great and was very supportive
Assistant store managers and other staff were friendly
    A good learning experience

    Cons

Once there was a new store manager the whole store started to derail
The new store manager had a bad temper, was overbearing, and didn't care about the employees
Some of the employees were not happy to work there so they did not work very hard

    Advice to Management

Be kinder to your employees and don't get upset when one of your employees was not properly trained and not the gender that you feel is appropriate for the position.

ok pro deals if you know how to get them

    Cons

no manager will tell you the same thing you do a project one day and have to change it 5 times before they tell you i guess that will work. 3% a year is not enough. Product ordering is a joke never have what you need

    Advice to Management

communication just because you send 19 emails that all say the same thing breathing down everyone's neck means nothing if there is no direction
