    Working around like-minded people. The environment in the retail store is relatively easy going.

    Cons

    Seems to be a disconnect between corporate expectations and the actual experience that customers get inside a retail store. Some expectations that corporate provide are not necessarily reasonable.

    I have been working at DICK'S Sporting Goods part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    You get incentives for having customers apply for credit cards and buying warranties. I believe it's $4 for a credit card and 10% of the warranty price.

    Cons

    The employee discount is only 10% or 25% off certain items and 0% for others. The discount could be better given the markup percentage for a lot of items.

    Advice to Management

    Give employees incentives for completing services, such as: racket stringing, club regroups, glove steams, and others.

    They have everything an athlete needs. They do not drug test unless you are applying for a Sales Lead position or Management Team.

    They can be disorganized at times, but what large retail store isn't?

    Pros

    the co-workers are what makes it great. Everyone is young and has energy.

    Cons

    the discount, always new managers, and sometimes bad workers get put into the mix but managers will not fire them (happened on multiple occasions) so the rest of the team had to pick up the slack. I also was not allowed water under my register even though I would be talking to customers for 6 + hours

    nothing good to say, will be leaving soon.

    Cons

    For the pay you get, I'd rather flip burgers at McDonalds for 11.00 per hour.....You are worked to death with no rewards and management covers up each others mistakes and blames the employees. employees are prosecuted if suspected of stealing, but they will watch a customer steal and walk out the door with nothing said....That is a fact!

    Advice to Management

    Start to develope employees as assests, not a replaceable resource. Treat people with respect, not blame.....cooperate probably doesn't even know what goes on the the stores.

    Pros

    If you are someone who enjoys sports and working in a team manner; then, this company is for you. I worked as a Customer Service Specialist for a year and really enjoyed it. Be prepared for fast paced work during holiday events.

    Cons

    Although, the company offers room for professional growth; it is really competitive and there are only a few positions to look forward to. This is not your forever job unless you work as a manager.

    Advice to Management

    Hourly paid should be increased.
