I have been working at DISH full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

If you have a good Manager, projects can be very rewarding and provide great experience for advancing ones career

    Cons

Benefits are competitively the bottom of the barrel for Engineering. Large number of employees that would prefer to move on but feel stuck because they are in green card processing. Poor planning by upper management has resulted in mandatory cancellations of vacations and long nights and weekends for months at a time that could have been avoided. Upper management has little ability to understand intangibles.

    Advice to Management

Take money off the table; compensate your highly skilled employees fairly so they can focus on doing great things.

    Pros

3rd shift Friday, sat. And Sunday (12hr) shifts. Great schedule for students.

    Cons

Ver repetitive motions. Quality defects involve things that shouldn't even matter.

    Advice to Management

Either change critera that has nothing to do with function or get better lighting for associates to see defects only QCs can see.

Dish is a great company to work for. As long as you are willing to work hard they are willing to help you to increase your knowledge of the company and products. During the summer you can get all of the overtime that you can work.

    Cons

Tech position slows down in the winter. They try their best to keep everyone working.

I have been working at DISH part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexibility, How laid back it is

    Cons

Pay is terrible. Insurance is pretty bad.

    Advice to Management

Nothing they can do about pay, that's a corporate decision. Unfortunately, that tends to attract a lot of people that leave something to be desired.

I have been working at DISH full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There are some nice people here, I honestly can't tell you why they stay but they make the days almost tolerable.

    Cons

The culture is flat out horrible. I chose to ignore all of the reviews here on Glassdoor because I couldn't believe it was that bad but it is and 90% of what you read here is true. The "core hours" are archaic and ridiculously enforced. What passes for offices haven't been updated in what seems to be decades, they are sub par by 1990's standards for what a good office should be let alone modern standards. Upper management is a laughing stock, they micromanage and put forth no type of vision or strategy what so ever. The "Base Camp" on boarding training is ineffectively long and basically a crash course in why working in a call center is a soul sucking job you should avoid unless you have no choice. The kicker is that management is so gun ho on this program that no one dares criticize it but in reality is it as garbage as the rest of this place. Day to day work is tedious because the processes and systems are nearly unusable in most cases. During the interview process I was told that the company is "working hard to change" yet in an all company meeting when asked about making changes to attract talent and make work life better the response from upper management was essentially, if you don't like it leave. Many people are taking this to heart and there is an almost constant stream of resignations and open unfilled positions.

    Advice to Management

The rumors are out there that a sale is eminent. Just sell and get out because it is obvious there is no desire to compete and strive to be a great organization.
