    Pros

None. This company is run by a child.

    Cons

Charlie Ergen is an idiot. He has no management skills at all. He is paranoid and runs the company under a very tight fist. Even his highest manager must be yes men.

    Advice to Management

Open up and allow your good people to do the job you hired them for instead of berating everyone around you.

    Pros

Dish is an interesting company. Lots of technical concepts to learn. Dynamic atmosphere.

    Cons

Headquarters is not near Denver. Having to scan in and out every time you enter or leave the building. No Internet access. No fitness center. Cafeteria food is hit or miss. Everyone is expected to work long hours with little or no recognition or additional compensation. The people I work with seem pretty burned out with their job and have a pretty cynical attitude about the company in general. The benefits are definitely below industry average. My Dish "health insurance" costs me about the same as what I could buy out of pocket from Blue Cross/Blue Shield.

    Advice to Management

    Better communication. Clearly defined responsibilities.

    Pros

Great experience and opportunity. Chance to build up resume.

    Cons

No trust in employees, not valued and the company does not care about you. Always spinning our wheels on useless/ irrelevant work. Only place i have seen that you have to fight tooth and nail to get your responsibilities done.

    Advice to Management

Give employees the resources to get their job done.

    Pros

There is nothing positive to say

    Cons

Angry customers with no real way to resolve issues, extreme pressure from management, very little time for breaks

    Advice to Management

Having anyone answer phones for more than a few hours straight is maddening. People need more breaks especially given the amount of stress they're under!

    Cons

    - low pay / poor benefits / low employee morale /
    - senior management is not terribly in touch with the 'real world' and as a result frequently makes decisions in a bubble w.o. market research to back up their decisions.

invest in employees and their families. it will pay off in the long run.

    Pros

Stay for a year and you are pretty much guaranteed a promotion since you will have more tenure than most around you.
No B.S. from the CEO: He is very clear in his opinion that his employees are stupid morons that hurt the business more than help it. Very refreshing to get this kind of straight talk.
Company is very active at attracting good talent out of college. For a young healthy single Dish is probably a good place to start a career.

    Cons

Management philosophies are straight from the 1950's. Low pay. Basically no benefits. Very high employee turnover. Talent level is generally low due to low pay and the extremely high employee turnover. Good people don't stay for long, others float to V.P. level over time.

    Advice to Management

Let people manage who have management competencies.

    Pros

Easy to get hired on at entry level.
Can promote if you go through the correct hoops.
    Good on the resume.

    Cons

    Poor benefits, heath care.
    LOOOOOONG hours with LOW pay!!!
No recognition for going the extra mile. A simple at-a-boy goes far.
Not given the right resources for the job.
To many chiefs and not enough Indians!

    Advice to Management

Recognize who holds this company together, who keeps your signal going into all 14 million homes. The low man on the totem pole is the man who makes your money. Without the installers aka The Front Line. Your company would be lost. We are the ones who take all the %$@# from the customers. all the trouble they had from CSR gets pointed right at the installer. We cover it up and leave the customer happy and content, yet we get treated like trash!!!!

    Pros

Introduction to the industry. Innovative equipment. Forward thinking regarding the equipment and installation quality.

    Cons

No money, overworked, no appreciation for hard work and effort. They are NEVER satisfied. The 4 days on, 4 days off, 3 days on, 3 days off schedule is the standard for 365 days a year. (even Christmas Day) Even at that, 110 hours in two weeks is average. They go through people so much that getting a promotion is nearly impossible because the multi/managers approval is hard to get from a revolving door.

    Advice to Management

The company is only as good as its employees, and employees can only be pushed so far before the quality of work suffers. The cheapest service is NOT the only benchmark worth working for. Quality of service and caring employees go a long way toward customer satisfaction, and a satisfied customer doesn't mind paying a bit more.

    Pros

You have the chance to hone your skills in whatever department you think you fit. There's ample opportunity to move up, although most positions require you to move.

    Cons

Horrible communication between corporate managers and employees who work outside of the corporate office. Horrible travel policies, where you must wait forever to be reimbursed for simple costs. What company makes you pay for everything when you travel? Benefits are alright, but health insurance is like having none at all. There is barely an employee discount for Dish Network Service. You're given the Top 100 and locals, you must pay for anything above. What's wrong with giving it to us for free, since we work for the company?

    Advice to Management

Start listening to your customers. See what they want, see what they are asking for, see why they are leaving in record numbers. Also keep an eye on your retailers.

    Pros

Lots of overtime, lots of money to be made, lots of travel time, you get to meet all kinds of people see all of San Diego from the beach to Yuma AZ. better technology than DirecTV. as far as receivers and LNBF's.

    Cons

Long hour days, the San Diego management, poor equipment, no feedback from management, non professional management.mandatory overtime (believe it or not) you have to stand on a metal ladder with a electric drill and a 30+ inch dish during a lighting storm and when you call to say this is too dangerous to do right now there answer is like Nike "just do it"

    Advice to Management

To audit and change the entire management staff in the San Diego office bring in some people with real management skills not just people that the fsm's like on a personal level, changes need to be made from the GM level all the way down th to fsm level.
