I have been working at DME (Michigan) full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Coworkers are great. Pay is decent

    Cons

Milacron management continues to bring down what was once a great company. Relocating jobs to India. No one feels safe

    Advice to Management

Quit lining your own pockets and realize that things like new equipment and a good staff are more beneficial in the long run. It's not "trickling down" and you're going to lose a lot of good people who are unhappy. Care about the front line forces and quit the beatdown.

    Cons

    Management treats employees like robots.

    Advice to Management

Do something about the toxic environment

I have been working at DME (Michigan) full-time

    Pros

Several of the hourly people are nice and some of the supervisors, managers and directors are OK. DME is a well known name in the plastics industry

    Cons

Lately, the parent company Milacron, seems interested in being top heavy and hiring a lot of management. Pay is poor, promotion unheard of and most people are waiting for their "pink slip"

    Advice to Management

Pay better, hire more hourly people or all of these recent managers and directors are going to be answering the phone and taking orders

    Pros

Co-workers are great. People will help you get acclimated, Interesting business. Great customers. People work hard and have pride in their jobs. Good procedures.

    Cons

Management seems to have become self serving. Great place to work if you just keep your head down and work. No real career advancement. It is all about corporate and not the employee, no matter what they say. It used to be a family company but the new culture doesn't really support this atmosphere anymore. People seem to be afraid to talk. Since the old GM and others left - different company. People don't smile. It is not a fun place to work anymore. Not great communication from management. It is not the same company of the past and customers comments are all over the place too and not always good.

    Advice to Management

Employees and customers are important. Go back to some of the old DME ways. When you talk mean what you say.

I have been working at DME (Michigan) full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I worked in the payroll department so I knew what everyone made and pay was above average for everyone. .

    Cons

Sometimes lack of control and some people got away with murder. Most of the employees were related in some way.

    Advice to Management

I haven't work there in a while so can't comment on advice to management. I am sure that the same management is not there anymore.

I have been working at DME (Michigan) full-time

    Pros

Most co-workers are great. Almost like family with some of them. Good place to get your feet wet in the plastics industry.

    Cons

Horrible management. The right hand doesn't know what the left is doing. They don't listen to employees, don't think through on new policies or procedures, and don't recognize opportunities for improvement. Constantly lose quality employees due to the company lack of vision

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees, watch the younger crowd as they will be the next to take over.

"Good place to work if you are desperate"

    Pros

Nice colleagues. A decent commute from most of the Detroit Metro area.

    Cons

If you are looking for a rinky-dink company with low pay, shitty benefits (with HUGE deductibles) and a management team that couldn’t find it’s ass with both hands, look no farther. You would have to be desperate to work here by choice, but many recent graduates and long-term unemployed are, so they are likely to have a steady supply of candidates (aka victims). The company’s HR practices are so antiquated they are laughable and they should be called “Personnel” instead.

    Advice to Management

Advice to management: listen to your employees. Pay them fairly & improve your benefit programs. Conduct an employee engagement survey. Update HR practices and hire some competent, progressive HR practitioners. Treat employees with a modicum of respect. HR should support, not impede, the organization’s goals. You cannot rely on a poor economy for a steady supply of victims forever.
