I worked at DNV GL full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people working directly with clients. The mission and values are awesome.

    Cons

Top management in the US Energy sector continues to demonstrate an inability to grow the company. They lack innovation and creativity. They haven't recognized that the same methods that are not working need to be changed. I think their lack of creativity holds them back.

The company is led by people that are poor communicators, too worried about doing the same thing. This is not only a detriment to new sales, it is a detriment to the rest of the employees' career growth. Pay sucks. t's lower than industry average. I believe top management needs to be leaner.

    Advice to Management

Bring marketing into the RFP process. Use excitement to get DNV GL to the best and finals. Let the local folks manage the process. Support a country wide team to sell new business. Alas to do this, the current top management should be sacked.

I have been working at DNV GL full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

There's a lot of opportunity to work on different projects and expand experience in different fields.

    Cons

There's not a lot of mentorship and proper training out of certain offices. Teams are small, which is nice, but also means there's not a lot of people to learn from.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your people. Give more room for promotions and raises.

Former Employee - Senior Principal Consultant in Oakland, CA

I worked at DNV GL full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

It used to be a great place to work. Not so much any more.

    Cons

Most of the things that made DNV a great place to work don't exist any more. The company lost it's soul when it got overambitious and went on an M&A frenzy.

    Advice to Management

Before merging with GL, DNV was an awesome company, built on values that they lived on a daily basis. Now they are like every other business, chasing the almighty dollar. No advice--it's too late.

I have been working at DNV GL full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Still a few excellent technical engineers on staff. Opportunities to make contacts in the industry.

    Cons

No leadership, business strategy, or commitment to integrity and quality. Almost all in solar upper management are from wind energy and they know nothing about solar. Management encourages staff to compromise on integrity and they only care about taking money from clients.

    Advice to Management

Instead of splitting the solar group into 50 teams and putting all under wind managers, consolidate solar in one group. Put competent experienced solar experts in charge.
