I have been working at DNV GL full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Strong, supportive culture; excellent reputation built over 160 years; diverse business elements; very diverse workforce; lots of talented and smart colleagues; strong benefits package; high integrity company

    Cons

Leadership is heavily localized in Norway and will always be; can be difficult at times for Norway to adapt to certain local conditions. Salaries can lag behind promotions. Typical big-company complaints about overbearing processes and bureaucratic approaches to certain things.

    Advice to Management

As a global company, please grow beyond the Norway-centric view of the universe. Please also consider the value of bringing in more external talent for strategic leadership positions.

    Pros

Work life balance Good employees Sense of purpose in employment Great benefits Matching 401k

    Cons

Advancement in energy conservation typically requires moving somewhere else in the country, unless you start at HQ. Medium-low pay comparatively.

I have been working at DNV GL full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Huge diversity of day-to-day functions provides lots of opportunities to develop what you value. Lots of smart folks with decades worth of subject matter expertise.

    Cons

Everyone's busy and doesn't have lots of time to mentor and train. Self-motivation is key. Moral seems to be generally low.

    Advice to Management

Support your staff, let them speak up.

I have been working at DNV GL full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Co-workers are some of the brightest people in the business and are truly passionate about what they do, all driven by the founding principles to work safer, smarter and greener.

    Cons

Politics are horrific with regional manager only wanting yes-men. Lies by all level of management. Still to this day a very heavy favoritism (borderline discrimination) to Norwegians. Pay is average, salary increases are marginal at best.

    Advice to Management

Too much politics, need to stop with all the lying and changing your mind all the time. Management team is full of yes-men that won't dare challenge regional manager. Elitist culture of regional management and Norwegians is terrible and morale killer.

I have been working at DNV GL full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

People Work life balance in some offices Mission is motivational and the company tries to live it more than some other places although that is decreasing.

    Cons

Buzzy management - too focused on metrics and not enough on purpose, vision, and values. It feels less special of a place than it used to.

    Advice to Management

Dare to be different from the hundreds of other consultancies out there. Live and breathe our purpose - don’t just focus on metrics.

I worked at DNV GL full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Great location, excellent benefits

    Cons

Incompetent line managers, work life balance is not a priority, favoritisms reeks heavy throughout certain departments

    Advice to Management

Listen to all employees and not just line managers whom may not be as qualified as the employees working for them. Also, find out why the work life balance is off with employees. Make sure all employees feel like they are apart of the company and not just when it’s time for annual reviews.
