I worked at DP Architects for more than a year

    Pros

    1. Great colleagues at work and colleagues bond easily (but depends on which team you work at and individual) 2. Great benefits and salary pay out is considered one of the best few among many architecture firm (implied more for the locals fresh graduates and below Executive level. Foreigners increment could be tough unless you have years of great experiences or good design portfolio) 3. Good working environment (you will not need to worry whether you have a problem with your computer system that prevent you from doing your work properly because they have a very established IT dept to help solve these problems. Pantry is also fully equipped with food and drinks. So one should be very comfortable there.) 5. Good place to learn and enhance knowledge (e.g many small seminars and sharing sessions to enhance your knowledge in current architecture design trends, what are the do's and dont's during a tender, authority submissions. They also have in-house skills upgrading making sure you learn the right technical tools e.g. latest Revit, Autocad, Microstation to perform at work. 6. Encourage fresh graduate to obtain QPs. (Qualified Personal Certification) (Many seminars available and mentorship allow you to be prepared for QP exam)

    Cons

    1. Its a big firm with many people. Therefore many a times 1 project can be segregated into several small parts per person to be in charge e.g Person A design toilets, Person B design Swimming Pool. This usually result in many not able to grasp the entire picture of the project. If one is looking to know a project from Design Stage to Hand Over. You need to be very self motivated and skillful. This is necessary to allow you to complete the task as soon as possible to cover work of a different scope from the same project in order to learn. Fresh graduate need to learn fast to be able to do so. 2. No work life balance (depends on the competency of the team, team leader and director). If your team leader/director constantly feels the need to change many parts of the overall design during submission period then, overtime will be required to catch up lost time. Competency is very important in this case. 3. Too many leaders to report to and worst when many of them has a different vision and idea of what need to be achieve. Very tough to follow instructions ending up with many mistakes or work done with many standards.

I worked at DP Architects full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Good exposure to large projects, access to government projects. Lots of teams to choose from in order to grow

    Cons

Bad work-life balance, no natural daylight leading to a rather factory based production context. Working hours are a little longer from 9 to 6.30pm with no overtime compensation for full time employees. Little opportunities for career prospect
