Pros
I had started at CTB as a Kelly temporary worker. I was initially hired to work on assessments for first and second grade, but over the years, I have worked on various grades. I have enjoyed working for CTB/McGraw-Hill, and I have had mostly positive experiences. I have enjoyed working with most everyone that I have met at CTB. CTB has great benefits, which include the ability to work from home. I also took part in the McGraw-Hill softball team, which was a nice perk of being an employee of McGraw-Hill Education/CTB. I do miss the meetings with Terry McGraw, and things have definitely changed since McGraw-Hill split up into two companies. However, I would still recommend working for CTB to friends, and I even recommended it to a teacher at a review last month. I think Ellen has been an excellent CEO, and it has truly been a pleasure working for her. She has integrity and class, and it would have been a pleasure to meet her.
Cons
Unfortunately, some of our peers are petty and immature. People will put their own personal agendas ahead of what is best for the company. Also, please note the review from October that was poorly written. This program has a spellcheck, so the spelling errors are a red flag. The person who wrote it was probably from another company, or a person with their own personal agenda. In any case, it is very disappointing to see fake reviews about this company.

CTB/McGraw-Hill

The people I worked with at CTB are outstanding. I am still friends with many of them. The work was challenging, yet interesting. I got to travel across the country (some destinations, such as Santa Fe and Washington, D.C., were more enjoyable than others, such as Albany). My abilities were recognized and I received several promotions and awards. My bosses for the first several years were wonderfully supportive. The salaries are competitive and the benefits comprehensive. Remote working is allowed and even encouraged in some cases.
Cons
I used to say that CTB put the "fun" in "dysfunctional". Sadly, the "fun" part stopped being true. The family-type atmosphere in our department dissipated rapidly following the crash of '08, change in leadership, and the company being sold. The work-life balance and manageable stress levels I had previously enjoyed went out the window. Efforts to regain that balance were thwarted by management, although to be fair, I know others who succeeded in that respect.

1st. You get a paycheck... The pay is not bad for the job. But its not as much if you're on contract rather than being hired directly. 2nd. Most of the people you work with are ok some make the day feel better and some depending on their personal issues make you want to quit.
Cons
If you not hired by the company directly people they will treat you like crap. No Paid holidays, No vacation time. "Really you can take as much as you like you just won't be paid, No paid time off of any kind again, No benefits, No insurance, No life/work balance, Having more work and clients added to your contract without equal compensation, Working with Freeware licences that crash left and right. Entire building power outs and internet crashes, And to top it all off they recently terminated then entire Indiana staff but asked them to stay till Nov 2nd and to keep the number up. "real morale boost".
