I worked at DRS Technologies full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good benefits. DRS has to stay competitive with other area manufacturers. Might be a good place for a new hire to start at, but have a Plan B by checking out the other local companies.

    Cons

While there are some good managers, most will do anything upper management dictates without regards for their workers.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of most of your top-heavy upper management, get new honest managers and start over. Treat your employees much better.

    Pros

Some good co-workers with several opportunities to work with different embedded technologies even if some were a bit older.

    Cons

Waterfall development and slow to adopt new tech some times. Sometimes contracts were strange where we as the implementers were also tasked with writing the requirements for the thing we were going to develop but often could not get answers from the customer about the requirements they needed. It seemed very odd but I feel like it was normal stuff for government contracts.

    Advice to Management

Make sure meetings, especially all-hands meetings are useful. I stopped going to them because they never provided me any information that was useful.

I worked at DRS Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

While I was there and in the Manufacturing Engineering Department, there were great benefits, lots of opportunity for career growth, hard work was rewarded, and the company culture was mostly good.

    Cons

During my time there it was an absolutely massive corporation. Our location had over 1000 employees. One contract went bad, and then the economy went bad, and they laid off 90% of those 1000 employees within a couple years. It's a part of doing business, and a part of DoD contracting.

    Advice to Management

Don't grow too big for your britches.

I worked at DRS Technologies full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Decent pay and decent benefits. There are several good, hard working people still there and good to work along side.

    Cons

Favoritism by managers, disapproval of higher education by some managers because it's looked at as a resume builder rather than for the betterment of the company.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to those who work hard to get the job done right, not favoritism, allow those who desire the education for the betterment of the company, the opportunity to do so, it will make you shine as well.
