I worked at DRS Technologies full-time

    Pros

Good Pay. Good people. Good Location in Melbourne, Florida.

    Cons

Leadership with no long term plan. All activities are poorly planned and executed only through intimidation and senior leadership involvement. Priorities changing hourly. Program leadership unaware of commitments they make to the customer. All activity is expedited and chaotic. The risks being taken routinely with design and product quality put the customer at risk.

    Advice to Management

Senior leadership needs to stop reorganizing the divisions and make changes at the top. Seniors leaders need to communicate and execute to some type of long-term strategy. They also need to better understand the time it takes to engineer and build a quality product.

    Pros

Products matter to our military members, their safety, and security.

    Cons

Leadership unable to impact effective change and unwilling to tackle the big problems. Quick fix approaches and hasty decisions are driving this company further into chaos and preventing any meaningful repairs to the systemic ails of the company.

    Advice to Management

Get back to basics of management. Hold people accountable, respect deadlines, address insubordination, do not reward individuals who are not showing positive examples in work ethic or interpersonal communication skills. Reward individuals who are striving to make the company a success while ALSO acting in a professional and ethical manner.

Company states off every Friday. You will work those Fridays. Plan on 20% OT.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees better. Tell them positives - not negatives.

    Pros

Financially, benefits and salary are fair. The work schedule is a every other Friday off

    Cons

The organization is very top heavy. The solution is to higher more directors and VPs to talk about getting the work done instead of hiring the correct staff to get the work done. Overall, the common employee phrase to describe the environment is "toxic"

    Advice to Management

Hire people with experience to manage. stop hiring chiefs who only add more of the wrong processes. listen to the employees

    Pros

Great work environment. Great benefits. Very supportive management doing their best to keep the company moving forward in a very competitive environment.

    Cons

Some engineers/analysts too set in their ways to evolve with the changing needs of a government contract company. They have a hard time recognizing that the company structure cannot stay the same as when they were hired 20 years ago.

    Advice to Management

None. They are doing the best they can in today's climate.

    Cons

Ethical situations making work environment hostile and unhealthy
"us" versus "them" mentality from the local revenue makers to the corporate HQ level personnel
    No team work within organization
    Standardization failures for financial reporting

    Advice to Management

Understanding your revenue generating locations should be appreciated, not seen as an issue, or a problem child. Remembering that the labor workforce is what is paying for your yearly bonuses.
