I have been working at DS Services of America

    Pros

You get freedom, people are great, everyday is a different challenge. Pretty good work life balance.

    Cons

Need better training program in place, conspiring the size of the company. Hand held devices are really horrible and need to be replaced as of 2 years ago.

    Advice to Management

A company the size of this one, should have a training program in place, not just relying on other employees that are available. Need to have a better system in place for hand held updating more regular. All of the management team needs to have smart phones to access emails as needed.

I have been working at DS Services of America for more than a year

    Pros

Good Pay. Learning business practices, customer service, sales, and ownership of a facility.

    Cons

This company does not care about its employees. Everyone is a number and they have unrealistic expectations. There is no work/life balance.

    Advice to Management

Show value to everyone of your employees. Stop with the micromanaging.

I worked at DS Services of America full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Fresh air and exercise when running routes. The snack machine. The soda machine. Free coffee. New carpet in the office every five years.

    Cons

Tom Harrington and his misguided love affair with Fixed Delivery Days which is horrible for the customers as well as the employees. Just ask Jeff Thompson - He agrees with me, as does the majority of the bobbing head yes men you surround yourself with. Lack of adequate resources, especially personnel and trucks. You can't have "Customers for Life" if you're not willing to invest in your own company. That's called hypocrisy.

    Advice to Management

The suits at Cott should fire Tom Harrington and his cronies. He's been there too long and to say that he and his team are out of touch would be the understatement of the decade. Do you even know what goes on at the Frontline? Start paying attention to Operations or start looking for other employment. Get out from behind your laptops and smart phones and face reality. There's more to running a company than the stress...

I have been working at DS Services of America full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The job helps you stay I'm shape, and at times can be fun. I work with some real good guys.

    Cons

Hours are ridiculous. Salary employee starting at 45,000 a year working over 70 hrs a week, with no extra compensation. Poor business ethics, on every front.

    Advice to Management

If management wants to fix the increasingly bad reputation of DS Services, they have to restructure several aspects of the job. Hire utility drivers, hire new set, setters. Treat employees right, and cut hours down. I am a route manager I start my day at 6:30 everyday and am usually never home before 8:30 at night. How can a company expect someone to live like that? (It's also illegal) check out the DOT regulations concerning...

I worked at DS Services of America full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Very grateful for the opportunity to be developed as a ROM here. My team that I directed made it easy to do my job daily. Getting out in the field to meet customers can be rewarding. Seeing your team succeed.

    Cons

However, to many fellow managers who love to stab you in the back due to jealousy, and their own non people skills. Too many butt kissers, not enough support for the real backbones of the company. The route drivers deserve more salary wage increases.

    Advice to Management

Stop getting rid of good people and not just keeping the YES guys. Especially those who never carried water.

    Pros

The physical work itself is the best reward if you are on the frontline, running routes

    Cons

The investors who own the company have chosen not to invest in the company. Therefore, they could care less about their customers or employees. Yacht club bastards.

    Advice to Management

Just sell the company to a group of decent human beings who can actually run it appropriately.

I worked at DS Services of America full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good benefits, Vacation, 401K plan, OK pay once at top commission rate

    Cons

High turnover rate for Route Operations and Sales positions. Poor managment at field level due to constant churn of employees and lack of training. Poor entry level pay and long hours. 12-15 hours per day is not uncommon for new hires. Senior managers are afraid of their own shadow as many have either been downsized or reassigned to other useless positions.

    Advice to Management

Senior managers from the Regional Manager level to CEO are not in tune with the frontline staff. They spend countless hours focusing on cost cutting measures and finding ways to squeeze more EBITDA out of a declining water sales trends and selling low margined products that nobody wants. Pressure to sell these useless items has forced many employees to cut corners to avoid the wrath at check-in. The company continues...

I worked at DS Services of America full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Most employees are great people. The company is stable and should continue to maintain its market share.

    Cons

12+ hour days. Underappreciated. Always asked to do more. Advancement opportunities were rare. Technology was behind, decisions were slow to be approved.

    Advice to Management

Take care of the people that earn your salary on their backs. They don't need to become rich, just respected. Senior management needs to come down from the ivory tower once in a while and talk to the frontline associates.
