    I worked at DSFederal full-time

    Pros

The biggest pro is the CEO Sophia is very sweet, caring, and compassionate.

    Cons

Absolutely no organization at HQ, and ever-changing executive level staff with no clear focus or direction. No clear guidance or rules on how to run projects, leads to sloppy, disorganized work for the client, and then a big scramble to try and fix it. Sloppy project hand-offs. The company recently DOWNSIZED their benefits! Health care costs went up dramatically and they totally cut tuition remission! CEO is too involved in day-to-day activities and does not provide so much as an organizational chart for management, so it's hard to know who reports to who for what. It's sad, because there is so much potential there. Company recently moved HQ and it was the sloppiest move in history, didn't even tell employees the date of move until 3 days beforehand, which is hard for people with children and families to re-route their schedules!

    Advice to Management

Get a plan! Focus less on proposals and more on getting organized. Some major contracts show signs of instability because no one at HQ has plans for growth or strategy on resource management. Work on being able to make an organizational chart and sustainable executive team. Executives should not be managing projects, coding, or doing reporting in projects! Everyone was too overwhelmed, and there is no focus or clear direction. I hope things change, Sophia is very sweet! But without organization, structure, and control for overtaxing key resources, the company will not last or outgrow 8A successfully.

I have been working at DSFederal full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Nice small Federal Contracting business, Good diverse culture, some Corporate values, informal office environment, good intentions, altruistic CEO.

    Cons

Poor management and cryptic leadership, no clear vision for business development. Salaries and benefits are just average, no career paths or plans for promotion of valued, loyal employees. Bad organizational development, just adequate administration, and HR. Unprofessional conduct of HQ is not addressed. All this leads to talented employees becoming frustrated, unheard, unappreciated and finally leaving

    Advice to Management

Reward your loyal and valued employees with leadership positions with power to lead, pay better salaries, increase/not decrease the amount company contributes to health benefits. Develop some standard of hiring and hiring process, many unqualified people are hired and become a burden to projects and drain on resources. Hire a VP, Office Manager, and full-time dedicated HR Manager and Recruiter and let them lead the organization with the guidance and vision of CEO.

I have been working at DSFederal full-time

    Pros

Nice place to work. Great staff and coworkers. Nice working environment. Lunch provided most times.

    Cons

Location of head office is inconvenient by public transportation. Most contract staff work in the metro area and when summoned for meetings at the HQ, it can be inconvenient via public transportation.

    Pros

I worked at a client site. The project managers I reported to were always excellent. Cared a lot about their employees

    Cons

Poor communication between HQ and staff. Constantly got mixed information. HQ not well organized (misplaced sensitive information). No career growth within the company.

    Advice to Management

CEO too involved in hiring processes and day to day activities. Company needs more helps at HQ.

I have been working at DSFederal full-time

    Pros

Very culturally diverse environment. CEO treats staff like part of her family for HQ staff.

    Cons

Lack of focused leadership and understanding of what it takes to deliver high quality work. Staff on projects are not mentored by senior managers; bids are done to win but not for delivery.

    Advice to Management

Hire staff with the right credentials and certifications. Spend more time training staff. Need to bring in subject matter experts who can talk to customers and relate to them. Don't just throw more inexperienced resources at projects - focus on quality personnel.

I have been working at DSFederal full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The unique atmosphere and culture are probably the best things about working here. There is a sincere commitment to client service, community service, and to employees. The CEO is very accessible to everyone, even bringing in home cooked meals. Staff are encouraged to express themselves, be creative and make the company their own. The HR department, senior management, and a Wellness Committee tries to plan things to take care of employees. Everyone is very receptive to suggestions from staff at all levels. Truly a breath of fresh air as "corporate cultures" go. Especially on the East Coast! Also its a very exciting time to be with this company, it's really taking off right now.

    Cons

The cons are really all related to company size, not specific to this firm. As a small company, there are not as many options for benefits as you might be used to at larger firms. Also, again as a small firm, the infrastructure and processes are still evolving.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the focus on creating standards and processes; encourage senior managers to focus on career path for staff; communicate what's going on at the top levels to everyone so that they feel involved.

    Pros

Being a relatively small company, it's easy to get in touch with someone who can help with any issues that may pop up. The CEO and management really care about the employees, and it shows with generous benefits, opportunities for growth, and support for gaining new skills.

    Cons

There are some growing pains as the company expands, and internal communication could be improved.

    Advice to Management

    Improve internal communications
