  1. "Good Work Environment"

    I worked at DSW

    Pros

Coworkers were friendly, management was flexible with hours as I was attending school at the time. Good environment as far as retail places go

    Cons

Management sometimes took their frustrations from upper management on the associates, clear favorites among managers and associates

I worked at DSW full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Okay discount but not much else at home office.

    Cons

No regard for employees lives. Shifty managers who kiss butt to get promoted and sting along their associates. It’s all about budget and how you can do more for the same amount of pay. No growth unless you play a game and are in upper management. The executives took a tiny pay cut when covid hit but laid off 80% of home office to “keep us safe” when we were already working from home for a few weeks. Pointless meetings that could be emails. Sad recognition celebrations where the same 3 people get celebrated for doing their jobs.

I have been working at DSW full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    My team and that’s all.

    Cons

Everything else. Nothing about this job is satisfying or rewarding. The forced employees to work during Covid-19 just to make a buck. They are forcing stores to stay open later just to make a buck and absolutely no money is coming in the stores in the late hours. DM’s partner with other DM’s or tenured store managers to bully managers who speak out about unfairness. It’s a “good ole boy” system so you may as well not go to upper management about anything because they will protect their own. You are heavily overworked and underpaid, heavily tasked with no payroll and EVERY SINGLE THING you do is micromanaged to the tee. If you’re hired as a store manager you’re basically just looking over a store and doing what you’re told to do from afar. You have no autonomy. One of my worst regrets in life was leaving a great job thinking I was coming to a company to grow my career in retail, only for it to be hell since I’ve started. I truly dread going to work every day.

I have been working at DSW part-time for less than a year

    Pros

30% off discount on full price items only chill place to work overall

    Cons

You do not qualify for almost ANYTHING as far as VIP things go, except rewards. Even if you are an Elite member, all of that gets wasted because you are an associate. (Which I wish I would have known before I got hired here.) My store at least is a mess. Management and upper management are horrible, and cannot communicate well at all. The websites and apps are all GARBAGE! They crash and break down constantly, no matter what platform I'm on. Some of the company policies are just ridiculous. Probably store specific again, but the way they handle hours and availability is just so bad. COMMUNICATION! I've been told 20000 different things since I started and none of it is consistent, even when it comes to the higher ups! No foreseeable chance of climbing up the ladder. Benefits? Yeah right. Even if you work more than your part time hours, they still won't give you benefits OR make you full time. Seriously, is it so hard to understand I don't want to risk my health for a company that wouldn't care if I disappeared tomorrow and never came back? AGAIN, store specific, but holy cow the amount of gossip and drama in this company is disgusting!

I worked at DSW full-time for more than a year

    Pros

discount, pto, some of the best associates in retail

    Cons

Managers are given more work than they can possibly do, when you succeed if you are not in the top 50% it is still not good enough. Upper management uses the threat method of motivation and nothing they do is ever good enough.
