I have been working at DaVita full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Coworkers are for the most part good quality people that are great to work with. Biomedical Technicians have diverse job duties and like my "teammates" are always busy which makes the day go by very quickly.

    Cons

Work environment is too demanding. Training for biomedical technicians is only fair and leads to frustration and poor attitude towards management.

    Advice to Management

Invest more time in training biomedical technicians. Utilize only the best employees to train new employees. Salary increases of 2.5% are not adequate for a high quality review.

    Pros

Very positive atmosphere company wide. Further training and education is encouraged, and the opportunities are there to do so. I have worked for the competition, and this is a great experience.

    Cons

Healthcare not great. I realize that healthcare is very expensive, but this is a very large company. They have a lot of influence. Why can't they work a deal?

    Pros

They wasted my time. I had my salary requirements on my application and they had me in for an hour interview plus a shadowing, only to offer me $19.50 per hour. This was for a biomedical technician. They knew I wanted $25 per hour. They shouldn't have wasted my time.

    Cons

It seems like a really simple job. Anyone could do it. Insurance is really expensive.

    Advice to Management

    Don't waste people time.

I worked at DaVita full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    * Full-time benefits. Their benefits are great and come with perks.
    * Training available through their own customized online courses as well as certification courses provided sometimes out-of-state depending on your job function.

    Cons

    * Management staff (especially in the area where I worked at: Dream Team, Region 1, Wild West) did not grasp the concept of being able to empathize with their employees' needs, issues/complaints, etc.
They handled everything from a more business perspective, swaying more on what helps the business grow instead of balancing it out to the point where it also helps to foster positive relationships amongst their staff. A lot of FA's with the exception of one or two had no clue how to get their staff morale up.
Conflict resolutions were biased in the favor of making the FA appear better than their staff.
Shady business practices was rampant. It's like the big-wigs just sat behind a desk and held meeting all day and didn't or selectively-listened to complaints/issues of their team.

DaVita has an extremely high turnover rate. A lot of employees leave and join other competing companies because DaVita is SO big, it can actually pay their employees LESS - in every job function.

They DON'T compensate you more when they assign you more work - and by "more work" I'm describing additional tasks on a consistent basis to the point that if AND when you don't finish, you get questioned. And EVEN if you explain to your boss how and why you couldn't get the job done on time, THEY DON'T BELIEVE and instead RELISH in their own management positions and simply reply back with a, "When WILL it get done?" when they should've been asking you "What help do you need?"

They cram so much work down your throat and you don't feel the appreciation from you teammates.

    Advice to Management

Stop the shady business practices. Policy and procedures and audits are in place to help you team GROW and check itself, not slap each other's hands. There was hardly ever any TEAM environment in my experience.
Take time out to actually LISTEN and UNDERSTAND your staff. They're the eyes and ears on the field and if you tell them that they are and don't listen, then you're just being hypocritical of yourselves and your management-colleagues.

I have been working at DaVita full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

That you start getting vacation earning vacation time on the first day. But you don't get to use it more than a day at a time

    Cons

If you value your personal life and your finances then Davita Healthcare is not the company for you. I went to work for DaVita after 6 years and a Biomedical Tech for a small Renal Dialysis company. I was lured in by the thoughts of working for a Fortune 500 company. Well let me tel you, was I sure wrong.
First off we will talk about the pay and reimbursements, the reason that we work. Starting pay for an experienced Biomed at DaVita is on level with the national average. But, when it comes to giving raises the maximum company wide is 2.5%. When in comes to mileage reimbursements they stick it to you good. If you drive under 1000 miles a month then you can expect to be paid back 52 cents for all business miles. But if you drive more than than 1000 miles a month(which is very likely, unless you have all your clinics in one city), then your compensation is based on an average cost for your location. I received 21.5 cents per mile for all business miles and 210 dollars a month for wear and tear. By the end of the month you will end up paying out of your own pocket for work travel.
Next, the hours. DaVita will lure you in talking about how flexible your schedule will be. What they fail to mention is that you won't be the one who gets any flexibility out of this. DaVita Biomeds are on call 24 hours a day and rotating weekend shifts. If one of the medical employees forget how to turn a machine on a 2 in the morning then, woops you are going to be giving them step-by-step instructions over the phone at 2:01. All of this adds up to a company wide mandate of NO OVERTIME. So on Thursday when you are out of hours your Area Biomed Supervisor will be on the phone asking why didn't you save your hours. They will try to get you to work off the clock because the company needs it done and they want their monthly numbers under.
Your job responsibilities will be that you maintain all dialysis machine(average national dialysis load per Biomed is 55+), all water treatment equipment(ie reverse osmosis systems and filtration systems), maintain all clinical facalites(fix anything that doesn't require a mechanical contractor), maintain all anciliary medical equipment(centrifuges, IV equipment etc). Doesn't sound like much but remember that you will have 2 to 3 different facilities that you will have to cover. When something does break don't expect to have parts on hand to fix them because you won't. One of DaVitas biggest money savings schemes is not to allow Biomed to keep parts on hand. So when something does break you have to order in from a Vendor and have it sent. But don't expect it to work always because DaVita tries its hardest to order remaned parts(ok in the automotive world but a big no no in the medical industry).
The last one is the Davita "Culture" with a huge emphasis on the cult in culture. Expect in your first few months to be sent off to DaVita Academy. Here they will bombard you with all kinds of sayings, core values(which they expect you to uphold, while they don't) and the history and future of where DaVita has been and where they are headed. DaVita says that they are striving to become the best health care provider in the world but their only concern is money not patients. I know that a business only stays in business if they do turn a profit but they are just greedy. Don't sell out like I did to all the fancy letter head. Find a company that values you for what you bring to the table knowledge and integrty wise, not how much money you can save them. I don't hate Davita I just wish that I had done more research before I jumped on board.

    Advice to Management

Hire supervisors that have real industry experience. Quit selling out to the prospective employees that accept the lowest wage. The reason they except in is because they are not qualified and don't possess enough knowledge to be productive.

I worked at DaVita full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Generous vacation. Flexible work hours. I cant think of anything else. XXX XXXX XXXXX XXXX. I hated the place. Hard to come up with 20 words of pros

    Cons

Wages not consummate to workload. Hard to use generous vacation because of too many people with too many problems, too often. Biomeds lynch-pinned into too many different responsibilities making It difficult to have a fulfilling life and get all you are expected to do , done. Corporate philosophy promotes symbolism over substance.( Good feelings are no substitute for money ). Women will accept considerations (GOOD FEELINGS & SOCIALIZING) other than money as compensation for their work efforts. Davita promotes this philosophy to keep wages down. This philosophy did not work for me. Good feelings don't mean a thing to a working man. I will never apply again to work for a fortune 500 company.

    Advice to Management

Get your women under control. Too much emotion affecting critical thinking.( management)

    Pros

Great benefits. Will send you out for training on the dialysis equipment and RO system. Great gass milage.

    Cons

Pay is low. You may have more than one clinic to cover. Like 2 or 3. Oncall often. Puts a wear and tear on your car especially if your clinics are not close to eachother.
