    Pros

It's like a family. Great customers, great people. Good food.

    Cons

Not many cons to speak of. Sometimes people get mad that we don't sell tobacco or alcohol.

    Good opportunity

    Pros

It's always interesting being in a news-gathering environment. Most of the people are friendly and committed to their jobs. Marisa is incredibly committed to "watchdog" journalism and is an incredibly understanding publisher. Being in City Center is fun -- lots going on in the neighborhood.

    Cons

The hours are long and nobody's getting absurdly rich, but that's just the entire industry. Because it's a lot of trial and error with products, sometimes roles switch quickly.

    Doing important work

    Pros

Times are tough for news organizations, but this place is fighting the good fight. The Daily Press still engages in serious journalism that makes a difference. Sounds corny, but it's true -- and something to be proud of. High achievers here are rewarded with roles of increasing responsibility and opportunities to stretch their wings.

    Cons

The hours are bad, and nobody's getting rich. But what did you expect? You're looking for a job in a newsroom.

    Pros

Up to date training programs Solid benefits - can anyone say "unlimited time off"? Pleasant co-workers Perks - who doesn't like Friday's at Four?

    Cons

Typical corporate cons, i.e. less people do more work, increased time between raises, etc. but this is happening everywhere.

    advertising sales

    Pros

The Daily Press back in the 1990s was one of the finest companies I have ever worked at. After leaving and returning in 2012 I discovered that they had become a small time newspaper with many internal problems. The people were great to work with all working hard to keep this paper a strong community News paper and this paper holds a very good reputations within the community it serves

    Cons

as a 38 year newspaper veteran who served in both outside sales, major accounts and management I am sorry to report that with the decline in readership and other forms of advertising available that the market has dropped significantly. With external problem I found that the Daily Press hired upper level management out of Chicago who did not really have vested interested in the area nor in the employees that have been engaged with this company some for over 30 years. when chicago took over they refused to invest dollars into the employee by giving raises and cutting support staff to the point that the sales staff spent most of their time processing what they sold than being able to sell and have a good support staff. Chicago made a practice of laying off folks to make their bottom line look stronger but in effect went so lean and mean that no one had real time to sell. First mistake was cutting up the presses and paying a competitor to print the product. second was to let a CEO who is more interested in his TV empire and putting all of Daily Press profits into his love and not giving raises or col raises to the folks that are the life blood of the Daily Press. 3 setting high sales expectations while setting up the staff to "sell against themselves, each other" cutting into potential earning potential of staff. 4 Not understanding the Market due to outside management running the game. 5 Not supporting the employees. One vp used to walk in and not even say good morning to staff. I suppose that person thought they were to good for their staff and in reality some of the staff had more knowledge then they did.

    Pros

Deadline driven (Newspaper) , excellent process flows, well established company.

    Cons

Have many facility items that should be upgraded/replaced, writers/publishers are using very antiquated equipment (PCs/MACs) which require older software.
