I have been working at Daimler Trucks North America full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

You get to live in one of the nicest places in the country and do engineering work in the automotive industry which can be a satisfying career when you get to see your work on the road.

    Cons

You will be pressured into constantly finding ways to save the company money and none of it will come back to you. There are no bonuses in good years and currently the company is making money at record levels and won't share any of it with the employees. People don't really have any passion about what they do because there are no incentives to work harder. Stack ranking system pits employees against each other to... fight for a small "performance bonus" at the end of the year. Moving up requires you to move out of your functional area so there are few knowledge experts in each functional area.

    Advice to Management

Share profits with employees. It will change the culture of the company and people will work harder to make the company even more profits which will be a win-win for the company and employees.

I worked at Daimler Trucks North America full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Opportunitities abound for those willing to move around the company. Great place to develop technical chops.

    Cons

If you like what you do, you will not be rewarded for staying put at it. Since the company seems to value mobility, often folks have to clean up the mess in the wake of an upwardly mobile employee. Young hires often get shafted with unsatisfying design charting, designers do all the work, and engineers push paper.
