I have been working at Dairy Crest full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Brands
    High quality cheese supply chain
    Some good people
easy to bring in experience and make some impact

    Cons

CEO decides everything and his leadership (yes) team won't say "good morning" without checking with his first
Trading mentality and very weak commercial leadership and team means they still kowtow to retailers like a poor own label supplier
Underlying business has been asset stripped of resources - brand investment has been reduced to virtually zero over the last 6-7 years.
Strategy is not a strategy its just words that aren't followed through -move away from commodities yet £120m investment in Whey/GOS (premium but unbranded commodity)
I fear its an exit plan for the CEO and a £1m bonus
Blame culture - focuses on what's wrong not what's right and doesn't fix what's wrong anyway!
    Too many coasting long servers
Reporting excuses culture not doing culture
    Targets aren't targets

    Advice to Management

Change the Management and get some energy and vision

I worked at Dairy Crest full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great company benefits and good salary. In some cases better pay than industry however you work hard for it but happy with that.

    Cons

No clear career path no plan in place to promote unless one is good at the office politics and gets on well enough to be promoted when someone senior leaves

    Advice to Management

Put a succession plan in place

I worked at Dairy Crest full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Offices stacked to the gunnels with staff to monitor your performance.

    Cons

Do not care about staff who have lie threatening illnesses. Instead, they do their utmost to sack as it "affects performance"

    Advice to Management

I'd look long and hard at how you treat people who suffer illness. It might be you one day.

I have been working at Dairy Crest (More than a year)

    Pros

DC has just sold its less profitable milk business and is now finalising its strategy for its new direction. Excellent brands, strong growth strategy, family atmosphere, friendly people, good development opportunities, balance between growing its own and recruiting external talent. Opportunity to make your mark.

    Cons

Due to the protracted process re the sale and previous uncertainty, quite a lot of contractors/interimns in place. This should change as the new focus and strategy is implemented.
