I worked at Dairy Queen part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Fun and local. It was an easy way to earn some money for the school year. Because it was a centerpiece of the town, met a lot of locals.

    Cons

Working in the winter was very boring. If there wasn't enough kids working over the summer, we would be overrun by customers.

    Advice to Management

Ensuring enough staff on busy days during the summer. Less staff on slow days.

I have been working at Dairy Queen full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Make your own schedule (mostly), have about 80% control of where you work and the pay is decent for the effort you have to put in.

    Cons

Most buildings and or equiptment are old and run down, not too good of a work environment as it is always needing repairs.

    Advice to Management

Raises should come easier and when due.

    Pros

The owner was friendly and offered very flexible hours.

    Cons

They hired too many young managers, they are slackers and like to boss around way too much.

    Advice to Management

    Better managers.

I have been working at Dairy Queen (More than a year)

    Pros

Fun to work with other people, make customers happy, snack on food and ice cream all the time, and flexible scheduling.

    Cons

    Low pay, only 10% discount.

    Advice to Management

Give people raises every now and again if you don't want such a high turnover rate. Like really, some of the shift leaders been there for more than two years and still on minimum wage.

I worked at Dairy Queen full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Need to start by saying, I'm well aware that all Dairy Queens are different and most are individually owned. I personally worked at the DQ in Pasadena, TX on Spencer Hwy.
Pros: Good first job, decent pay for a fast food environment, 25% off meals, and a tab was offered at my location, which is helpful when you run out of cash and still need to purchase food.

    Cons

Not all employees are treated equally, but this tends to be the case at most places of employment. I did, however feel unappreciated by management above the store level. The owner and his two sons visited the store from time and time and only had negative criticism to give. This is one of the main reasons I chose to leave this place.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate your employees to a fuller extent. Your employees are there to run the store front business end of the company you've worked so long to build a reputation for. If you're looking for long-term employees that will actually stick around, some appreciation would be a good thing to give.
