I worked at Dairy Queen full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Need to start by saying, I'm well aware that all Dairy Queens are different and most are individually owned. I personally worked at the DQ in Pasadena, TX on Spencer Hwy.
Pros: Good first job, decent pay for a fast food environment, 25% off meals, and a tab was offered at my location, which is helpful when you run out of cash and still need to purchase food.

    Cons

Not all employees are treated equally, but this tends to be the case at most places of employment. I did, however feel unappreciated by management above the store level. The owner and his two sons visited the store from time and time and only had negative criticism to give. This is one of the main reasons I chose to leave this place.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate your employees to a fuller extent. Your employees are there to run the store front business end of the company you've worked so long to build a reputation for. If you're looking for long-term employees that will actually stick around, some appreciation would be a good thing to give.

I worked at Dairy Queen part-time

    Pros

Coworkers were pretty nice and free small ice cream and a lunch! Sometimes you'll get to take a few bucks home in tips if you had some decent foot traffic

    Cons

Not sure if they still work there but the manager wasn't great. Nice to your face but will talk about you behind your back to your coworkers within earshot. Gets very busy during warm weather. VERY busy and fast paced.

    Advice to Management

Just try to respect your employees more and if there is a conflict, get BOTH sides of the story. Also try to make it a positive environment. Working in the fast food industry already has a lost of negativity associated with it without you having to solidify the stereotype.

I worked at Dairy Queen (More than a year)

    Pros

Half off one item per day
    Fast pace
    Easy job
    Always something to do
    Lots to learn
    Tests your patience

    Cons

    Hours
    Dealing with rude customers
    Awful management
    Owner doesn't care about you
    Terrible pay
    Unfair treatment
    Hard work is unappreciated

    Advice to Management

Stop being biased. Hires people he knows with a much higher salary compared to people he didn't know prior to their employment, regardless of work ethic. Pay there is terrible. Meant for high school kids wanting a little extra money. Every person there is way underpaid and hard work goes unrecognized.

I worked at Dairy Queen part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    50% discount on all food.

    Cons

If management don't like you, they will try to push you out and force you to quit by decreasing hours.

    Advice to Management

Instead of decreasing hours, just fire the person. Management don't forget you are management and you can not act like crew members. Make sure you give instructions directly to the person instead of telling another crew member to tell them.

I worked at Dairy Queen part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Getting paid above minimum wage, fifty percent discount on everything on the menu and free sodas. Sometimes you'll get good managers.

    Cons

They'll expect you to work your butt off and then give you nothing in return. They're greedy and absolutely refuse to give raises.

    Advice to Management

Treat your workers like family. I had some good managers and some bad ones, and nobody has ever quit because they have a good manager. Don't be stingy either. Reward your employees when they work hard.
