    Pros

Relaxed working environment, good work/life balance, friendly. Generally a good bunch of technologists, at all levels.

    Cons

Senior management (both in London and Tokyo) don't seem to value technology, as such there's little or no budget for new initiatives. Furthermore the Japanese style of work doesn't translate to European staff, and senior management in Tokyo really need to remember that.

    Pros

    Cons

There were 3 Heads of Department in 2 years, so it felt unsettled.

    Advice to Management

    (Translated from English)

    Pros

Daiwa offered me a chance to trade new products and learn new areas of the business with autonomy. They were supportive of my personal development and I had a chance to work in different product areas with assistance from more senior people, including Japanese staff. The Japanese staff worked long hours but still made time to work with new employees as well as socialize occasionally in the evenings.

    Cons

All the managers were Japanese so an unspoken truth was that at some point you would be limited in your chances for promotion. The management structure was also hierarchial, as is to be expected at a Japanese institution i suppose, so any requests to my immediate superior normally had to be discussed with 2 layers of managers above him, which sometimes slowed decision making down.

    Advice to Management

Please ensure that non-Japanese managers are promoted and that the culture supports a meritocracy.
