I worked at Dallas County Sheriff-Texas full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Easy...easy job duties. You have the opportunity to meet wonderful people. Full benefits and decent employee discounts. When the moral is high, its a awesome place to work. Great stepping stone if you are wanting to purse a career in law enforcement. Paid vacation time and some overtime. Some great supervisors who make the job worth coming to daily, who care about you as an individual and as an officer.

    Cons

NO INTEGRITY, ACCOUNTABILITY OR PROFESSIONALISM. 8th largest jail in the United States and its VERY unorganized. The department is based on favoritism and bullies who are unqualified to withhold management positions. The department is reactive instead of being proactive. Micro-managing, and unprofessional attitudes are praised. Policies are written but only followed when its in the higher uppers (Supervisors,Lieutenants,...

    Advice to Management

For the Sheriff, start talking and being more involved with your employees not your appointed Chiefs, Captains etc. Start at the bottom, the people who are the foundation of the department.

I worked at Dallas County Sheriff-Texas full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

It's a stable job with good benefits. One of the best ways to enter law enforcement if pursuing a career as a police officer. It's full time with many overtime opportunities. There's room for advancement.

    Cons

It can become stressful because you are working with inmates. It's a 24 hr operations facility. You have to be available always to work your assigned shift. Senior officers think they know it all and will belittle rookie officers. Get ready to work evenings or nights, and say goodbye to having weekends off.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Dallas County Sheriff-Texas full-time for more than 9 years

    Pros

The job is easy and laid back. Its not labor intensive or mentally intensive. That's usually why people stay for so long.

    Cons

pay is low compared to other counties. You work weekends and you don't get to choose your work shift initially.

    Advice to Management

Pay the employees what you report that you're paying to the taxpayers and federal government.
