I worked at Dan Ryan Builders (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, you get out what you put in. In competitive markets. Decent pay. Company is constantly improving and getting better as a whole.

    Cons

Takes a while to be promoted. Very sink or swim type atmosphere. All training programs are raw and partly helpful. Needs more in depth training. Always having hickups in workflow.

I worked at Dan Ryan Builders full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great product! Loved the home plans, if your lucky enough to be placed in the right community, they practically sell themselves!

    Cons

Too much employee turnover - lacks consistency. Old mistakes in processes are repeated because employees haven't been there long enough to know that "xyz" has been tried (and failed) before - huge source of frustration.

    Advice to Management

Too much turn over. As new management is hired, too many processes and/or procedures are changed causing confusion and loose ends.

I have been working at Dan Ryan Builders part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great way to make extra money and introduction to New Home Construction Sales

    Cons

Part of the job description for a Part time Sales Assistant is to mop and vacuum floors. They need regular Housekeeping visits to make sure their Model Homes are always looking perfect and not rely on the Clerical Staff to keep it clean.

    Advice to Management

Better Bonus structure for Sales Assistants. Have regular housekeeping visits and not depend on clerical staff

I have been working at Dan Ryan Builders full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

No cap on quota. Better quality production builder than the competition.

    Cons

No weekends off. Lack of respect for sales staff. Very poor work/life balance. No base or draw. Feast or famine with the pay schedule. Blue prints are not consistent. Favoritism. Website desperately needs to be improved, more user friendly, better graphics. Outdated floor plans.

    Advice to Management

Respect sales staff, provide a base or at least 50% of commission at ratification. Ask for feedback from Sales on how to improve product.

I have been working at Dan Ryan Builders (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The Executive Leaders have done a great job of growing the company since the downturn in the market. They've expanded the footprint and at the same time are maximizing the growth potential in their established markets.

    Cons

The housing industry can be a very stressful environment

    Pros

I really can't say anything good about this company. If you want to have a job that is 10x's harder than it should be this is the place for you. It's really hard to get quality work done when people aren't paid or when they are paid rock bottom prices.

    Cons

Dont pay subcontractors, poor quality materials and standards.

    Advice to Management

Develop relationships with your subcontractors and actually pay them instead of just replacing them. Poor workmanship is expected when you don't pay people or fish for rock bottom prices.

    Pros

The leadership team gets it. They understand the market and continuously make the right decisions for the company. Dan Ryan genuinely cares about every employee and it shows in the strong culture.

If you want opportunities for professional growth, DRB is a great place to be.

    Cons

Since the company is privately held, company growth can be slow. However, the company is poised for long-term growth.

    Advice to Management

Consider expanding training and development efforts and investing more in employees who want to grow.

As the company grows, consider raising salaries to match larger builders.

    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

A lot of room for personal growth, promotions through experience and motivation. Flexibility to get the job done in your own way as long as it gets done.

    Cons

Long hours required in order to get the job done. Not able to take much time off. More employees needed and corporate puts a lot of pressure on other divisions.
