I worked at Daniel A Winters & Company full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    I made truly awesome friends

    Cons

To be clear, I left there well before 2015 but GD won't let me indicate earlier. For that reason, I won't comment on the office, technology, salary/benefits or training as it wouldn't be fair to assume it was still the same. However, when it comes to the people in charge, where does one even begin? In a word, it was toxic. I was one of the first females they employed on the accounting staff (80+ year old company when I started!) and the amount of inappropriateness was astounding. Some directly to my face, some behind my back (but reported to me by male colleagues because even they couldn't believe some of the things that were being said). I would hope that as they have continued to employ females that this has gotten better but it was inexcusable. Silver lining? At a young age, I learned how to confront my boss about sexual harassment and misogyny! Hooray for life lessons! However, I probably wouldn't even bother to write this review all these years later (I sincerely hope no women are being treated that way anymore) except for the worst part, which was how they handled my CPA experience letter. I was there for 2 years and passed the exam shortly after leaving. I asked them to certify my experience. They refused - ignored my calls, faxes, etc. The admin staff would confirm receipt of my requests but they continued to be ignored. I had to get a LAWYER involved to get what I needed from them. It was completely unprofessional and something I probably should have brought to the State licensing board or the AICPA, but I just wanted to be done with them forever. (It should be noted - I did not burn any bridges on the way out - I put in a proper 2 weeks of notice and they even tried to convince me to stay.)

    Pros

Job security is a plus here, you would have to be really trying to get yourself fired from this firm.

    Cons

Let me start with the company culture, there is none. It is a father and son run company leaving them to do whatever they want. They talk down to all their employees and even their clients. The son is worse than the father, belittling employees and always trying to act like he is the smartest person in the room. There is no HR so the two of them can get away with anything really, and to put it nicely the treatment there is better if you are a white male. The partners are of very little character so don't expect very much from them. When I left I I put in my proper two weeks notice and had over eight days accrued vacation time, you have to keep track of that yourself here because they won't to tell you how much vacation time you have, and they just flat out refuse to pay me for the accrued vacation time I earned. Every time I call they happen to be 'behind closed doors' and of course being as they are have not returned a single call. The company works on EBPs which come to find out counts for almost squat in terms of experience to any other accounting firm. They refuses to embrace any type of new technology. They are 100% paper, and believe it or not they actually still run Office 2003. Yes that's right, in 2015 they are still using programs from 2003. So don't expect much to put on your resume from working here. There isn't any sort of flexible work schedule. You are expected to be there until at least 5:30 everyday regardless of what time you come in or if you work through lunch. Like most firms there is no clocking in or out. Instead they have the admin. go around and take roll every morning just like back in elementary school, and around 6 everyday the son usually takes a walk around the office peaking in every cube and letting out a sigh of disgust at everyone's desk that left at 5:30 that day. So if you like doing hours of extra work by hand, uncomfortable work environments, and being micromanaged, maybe this is the place for you.

I have been working at Daniel A Winters & Company full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The company's 401(k) plan was good as matching contributions were 100% vested after only 6 months of working there. Rarely was anyone ever let go so job security was a pro.

    Cons

The Partners (father and son) are very disrespectful, demeaning, and unprofessional to the employees. There is no planned or official performance/review process as employees in my experience, were there over 2 years without a performace review or salary increase. The morale of the environment was very low and unprofessional.
