    Pros

Flexible schedule. Yardhouse used hotschedules so you could release and pick up shifts.

    Cons

Money sucked. Yardhouse has crazy strict rules. Can't clock in a second late or you'll be written up. You can get fired for almost anything. No benefits.

I worked at Darden full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Get to work with in a cultural diverse work place and interact with a lot of guests. Developed some great relationships with other managers in the region most left after 1-2 years with Darden.

    Cons

It's all about who you know not what you know. Managing Partners are gods, even really bad ones. No development from Managing Partner and no support from area director he came around once every two weeks and spent most of his time on the phone didn't really care about his team.

    Advice to Management

If a managing partner isn't being managed by his director and they have had a long standing relationship then maybe the director no longer holds his managing partner to standards and accountability. Its pretty pathetic the store was year over year down in sales and the no changes at the top.

I worked at Darden part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-The associates I worked with were always fun and I enjoyed their company.
-Other associates would be team players and help out when you needed it.

    Cons

-Scheduling was a nightmare. You could easily be scheduled to work from 10:30am to 4:30pm and be sent home at noon and never make a dime (as a server) because they would schedule more people than they needed.
-Managers always played favorites when it came to time-off requests or getting the "better sections".
-Constantly over pile the amount of work on one employee who was already stretched to the limit.
-Working as a server (making roughly $2.13/hr) we would constantly end up having to bus our own tables, sweep the floors, and roll silverware all while being paid the $2.13/hr with no customers or tips coming in and would still have to tip out to the "bussers". The tip out to busser(s) was automatically deducted from the amount of tips you made that shift.
-Sometimes when working doubles (where I worked it was usually 11am to 8pm with an hour break) they would not let you take your break until all of the first shift people leave and the second shift people come in (which could easily be around 5pm), or would not let you take a break until well into your second part of the shift.
-Darden is in a lawsuit for unfair wages vs. the work being done while earning those wages.
-The company is becoming too political.

    Advice to Management

Stop hiring more and more new people when you already have enough staff and give more hours to those who want them and need them.

I have been working at Darden full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The core job itself is enjoyable when you remove all of the politics and time wasting tasks that Darden piles on.

    Cons

Make no mistake, with this company you are a number. They extract all they can and move on to the next candidate. Longhorn runs the lowest hourly labor % in the industry. You will always be battling the labor matrix. It's all you'll ever hear about.

    Advice to Management

It's all about your people folks. How can grind management into dust and expect the guest to truly be taken care of? Longhorn has the lowest hourly labor $ as a % of sales in the industry. This makes truly taking care of the guest virtually impossible.

Former Employee - Dishwasher in Spanish Fort, AL

I worked at Darden full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    -food is consistent
-servers and kitchen employees work very hard

    Cons

-all nonmanagement employees are overworked, underpaid, and expendable even when they are doing fantastic with the chaotic environment
-managers are not team players and do not know how to run a restaurant efficiently.
-managers ignore the employees suggestions and safety concerns

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. You are not above them. You should be willing to do anything that you ask them to do. When you say team work, mean it. there is no team in Spanish Fort, AL. It is sad that managers refuse to communicate with the employees to make the work flow instead of fumble constantly

I have been working at Darden (More than a year)

    Pros

No pros that i can think of

    Cons

Lack of opportunity for growth. Management plays favorites with employees and it greatly effects your schedule/ pay. I have made formal complaints on multiple occasions due to sexual harassment and since the employees at fault have been with the company for years no changes were made or consequences faced. Management is irresponsible and often disrespectful to say the least.

    I worked at Darden full-time

    Pros

Started as an hourly in 2005, Earned College Degree, Became Manager in 2012...4yrs of dedicated Service...over worked under paid, underappreciated, and you will spend work days and days off running a 4-6hr trip to pick up product. Seems like such a great opportunity, but you will be a slave!

    Cons

Lack of Corporate Support, 55-80hrs a week, less bonuses due to continued changes, but more long hours required to make their goals with no incentives...the company downsized and is not doing well...Let many amazing leaders go to save them some $$$ ...The board of directors was replaced and laid off many decades of dedicated employees...that was the rouse to better the company. When you are new they sell you a Disney Storey...Run into your passion, empathy, care, motivation as a newbie.

    Advice to Management

Learn how to be objective and support employees!

Best reason to work at Darden? The discounts!! 50% off days you work and 25% off days you don't.

    Cons

They make promises they don't follow through with and transferring within the company was a joke... Way to keep an employee!!

    Advice to Management

Don't accept a transfer if you don't have room for them on your staff or don't plan on giving them hours.
