    Incredible Opportunity

May 25, 2017 - Account Executive in New York, NY

    Business Outlook

    Pros

    - Endless room for growth. It's a true meritocracy so if you're able to do well, you have great flexibility. - Awesome culture - you're surrounded by intelligent, young graduates of top schools who are ambitious and fun. Everyone is friends outside the office and there's a strong sense of camaraderie. - Training: they provide full training in the industry and it's a great way to break into a field you'd otherwise not have access to. Cyber security is a massive money maker right now and it's great that DT is training a next generation of potential industry leaders. - Perks - as a young graduate it's fun to be able to travel and have a company that supports your success however possible. - Pay - the commission structure allows you to make a ton of money if you're able to figure out how to do well for yourself. Also, base pay for an entry level sales job is very competitive. So even if you close nothing, you're still making more than most other entry level jobs.

    Cons

    - It is a very numbers focused company so while it's great for those doing well, those on the bottom not so much. You have a ton of independence (which is amazing), but if you're someone who wants your hand held DT will be a very hard place to succeed. - You're in a very senior sales role right out of college. It's an amazing opportunity but many new hires don't really know how sales works and it's not the career for them. Hence, they get frustrated because the success isn't magically coming to them. Success requires work. Yes, you can work 9-5 at DT, barely do anything, get paid your base, and go home. However, to make more than your base you have to do more work (duh).

    Cool product bad sales culture

    Pros

    AI Cyber Security sounds cool

    Cons

I joined 11 months ago with a team of 28 and watches it dwindle down to just 12 (company hired 2-3 new ISR’s per month). Company never asked anyone to leave/ put on pip and rep failed to hit. Literally just that many people were unhappy and wanted to leave. To sum it up: -poor management -zero transparency from leadership -have an “in-house developed” CRM that does not function as a CRM should and has an enormous amount of duplicate leads -leadership does not want to promote BDR’s into selling roles -you will get a bunch of free lunches, breakfasts, Uber eats gift cards, Mac books, and all the other boujee things that come with joining a cyber security start up but the company will not even spend money on a functional CRM or any additional resources for its sales people. Company simply does not value its sales people

Earning Potential, Solid Product, High Pressure Sales Environment

Feb 19, 2021 - Account Executive in Denver, CO

    Pros

Darktrace offers a premium product in the cyber security space which is in high demand. The go to market strategy supports swift deal cycles for software. Earning potential is unlimited if you can handle the intense pressure of the high quotas.

    Cons

Management will pressure you into making deals at all costs. Sink or swim environment, non-performers don’t last more than six months.

    Pros

Darktrace has a truly unique technology for cyber security and it's exciting to be part of a rapidly growing company.

    Cons

Relative to the SF office, I've had a lot of success in an entry-level sales position. Most of the office will be your age, so career mentorship is non-existent. From conversations with various colleagues, there is strong dissatisfaction with the inside sales manager and outside sales manager at the SF office. For the most part, you're merely seen as an employee who must be weekly and monthly quotas rather than a colleague. Collaboration is minimal as both inside and outside rep positions are given highly individualized responsibilities. Overall, I would be very careful about wanting to work at Darktrace if you highly value a company who will invest into your long-term professional development, rather than just categorize you as a producer or non-producer. Regarding commission, don't let recruiters fool you into thinking you'll make a six-figure salary within your first year. This is extremely rare. For example, inside sales reps make $250 after taxes for every $100,000 revenue you bring to the company. That's very little. Be sure to evaluate the commission structure very well.

Not your long-term solution for your career

Jan 17, 2018 - Cyber Security in New York, NY

    Pros

-Ability to travel to different places domestically and get exposure to various types of industry (Health IT, law firms, retail, etc.) -Opportunity for entry-level position and initial exposure to cyber security field

    Cons

-No career growth. No training. Quota-driven and no passion towards employees. You're not gaining any real experience that can be useful outside of the company. -Management rarely has your back -No equity or 401k You know the saying: you don't quit a job. You quit a manager. In this case, however, you also quit the job because the career outlook is not so bright here. Culture is toxic and majority (not all) of colleagues are too pompous and think too highly of themselves when most of the legwork has been contributed by the guys in the Cambridge, UK HQ. Go look somewhere else, unless you're looking for an entry-level position and desperately need a job. On paper, you will at least get "experience" but I wouldn't stick here for the long haul. But then again, I wouldn't recommend this place in the first place since it can set you back career-wise and it would be waste of time.

    Pros

Excellent product, brand and thought leader in the cyber security space. Interesting cutting edge industry. Lots of opportunities to make a difference and take on responsibility. Refreshed strategy since ipo to focus on people and development is welcome.

    Cons

Keeping up with the growth and speed of change needed can be challenging at times and work life balance can suffer.

Great product, great company, bad middle management.

    Pros

Unique and market-leading product. The most advanced/mature "AI" offering there is in Cyber Security. Earning potential is phenomenal and a very encouraging gender diversity that you don't often see in a sales/tech company. Felt very safe and no suggestion of a "boys club".

    Cons

Micromanagement, the likes of which I've not encountered before. Things must be done "The Darktrace Way" or not at all. Diversity of thought unwelcome even if physical diversity is.
