I have been working at Datalink full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Datalink doesn't go cheap on anything; happy hours, client dinners, hotels and flights. Work culture is strong, the people are nice, you feel like a family.

    Cons

The future of the company is very unstable, projects are constantly undersold, putting strain on the project team when they get to the client site. The company needs some re-evaluation and a new direction and way of operating.

    Advice to Management

Need a better sales team. Sales and services are disconnected from one another, and management is disconnected from everything

    Pros

Great company to grow your personal career. You can learn and grow with the best in the business. Paul Lidsky is a great CEO.

    Cons

Management sometimes treats you as a number, rather than a person. I've seen several people let go for no good reason.

I worked at Datalink full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Remote work and largely autonomous. Sales engineers have the ability to influence and in many cases make the sale.

    Cons

Sales engineer compensation is fixed rate. There isn't a commission option for engineers that are more sales capable than the account executive

    Advice to Management

I would add an additional bonus specifically for engineers that are winning customer business and leading the sales organization. That or create a consultant role that operates as a hybrid.

I worked at Datalink full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Work is not too hard. Not too hard to stand out. Pays pretty well and benefits are good. People are decent enough.

    Cons

Management does a lot of talking, but not much action to back it up. All the talk in the world isn't producing sales. Ex-EMC buddy system in Services is failing pretty badly. Other execs aren't much better. Sales people are unable to get the right conversations at the right levels. Not too many legacy customers either.

    Advice to Management

Execute better and pivot faster to attack new opportunities. This is critical to sustaining the business. You are currently moving too slow and need to adapt better.

I worked at Datalink full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Once a great company at the forefront of technology on a consistent waves. Strong onecall support program and pockets of great engineers.

    Cons

Lack of R&D investments and new technologies to solve current business problems have resulted in a weak Q4. Very inconsistent pay to 100% commission AE's leads to a rough ride.
