    Pros

Awesome access to a broad team of area experts.

    Cons

Teams are fairly siloed and client work is king. So working on internal projects can be rough.

    Pros

    Remote positions are available nationwide.

    Cons

Incompetent engineering staff. Management complains of low productivity but rejects basic industry practices to increase productivity. Nothing feels worse than slaving over code for weeks to learn that multiple broken components and mass confusion between teams destined the ticket to fail. Constantly playing catchup as teams realize they've built a spongy hammer... to drive in screws. More focus on JIRA bikeshedding than anything else.

    Advice to Management

Hire competently, then trust your engineers for bottom up improvement. Require components to match specifications, and don't deprecate and drop subsystems until an actual replacement is ready. Don't let teams promise critical functionality "in two weeks" for other teams, as this wastes TWO teams' time. Actually test policies before insisting that people adhere to them, or at least think for a minute about how other companies perform technical operations.

Don't hire any more engineers who haven't learned to Google JSON parsers before handrolling a shoddy one.

    Pros

Great place to learn but get out after you stop learning.

Some managers are really good but really have no power. They are put in place to make charts look good to investors.

It was bought by Rackspace so they should be able to see the obvious lack of quality leaders within the ranks.

    Cons

Lots of dead weight and bloated salaries on useless managers.

If you are good at politics you will be a leader, if not you will be a bottom feeder.

Tons of overtime with no incentives.

Bonuses are usually a gift card.

    No Christmas Parties.

Terrible raises. Best negotiate a great starter package because once in you will glacier up the pay scale.

HR should have been outsourced because they are barely at good at payroll (commission never added always deferred). If you need anything else from HR, just talk to a wall because you would get back a better response.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the useless people! You know exactly who they are!

    I worked at Datapipe full-time

    Pros

There are some excellent and conscientious people in DC, OS support, Network, etc.
but they're in the definite minority.

    Cons

Bad line managers. The executive team elevates people based on time employed, not by merit, and don't audit their ability and work ethics.
Despite some good people and camaraderie, the atmosphere is toxic. Bad employees are condoned and hidden from higher management based on personal relationship.

However, the company is for sale and it's understandable that executives would want to keep things hushed from potential buyers.

    Advice to Management

See above and start firing managers, unless the goal is to sell as quick as possible. If so, then it's probably best to keep quiet about corrupt and unethical managers.

    I worked at Datapipe full-time

    Pros

Vast technical resources were available. Many talented developers on the team. Lots of autonomy. Relatively flat organization despite the size of the company.

    Cons

Fully remote/distributed team was isolating. Late entrant to a competitive market, only time will tell if their strategy works.

    Advice to Management

    Good luck.
