I have been working at Datawatch full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Positive and rewarding atmosphere. Accomplishments are recognized and called out. Collaborative team setting. Your opinion matters. Lots of room for growth and development. Supportive management and a growing industry

    Cons

Sometimes things are done "because that's how they've always been done," but management is working to change this and recognize that change can be for the better

    Advice to Management

Continue to bring in young, energetic talent. Keep developing people from the inside. Maintain and build excellent communication between all departments

    Pros

Good incentive and employee equity schemes. Company is playing is a burgeoning and potentially lucrative market so if they (finally) get the strategy right then it could be successful.

    Cons

Product and go to market strategy has changed repeatedly over the last few years which has led to failed execution in the field. Short-term objectives prioritised. Contradictory communication from management. High turnover of staff.

    Advice to Management

Pick a strategy and stick to it.

    Pros

Young, energetic culture! Leadership appreciates work-life balance. A bunch of new hires making a positive impact on the company- making the future look bright. Smart, intelligence people to work within no matter the department.

    Cons

A lot of changes between employees and overall strategy of where the company is heading. Lack of communication from upper management.

    Advice to Management

Be more transparent with expectations from employees and where the company is heading.

    Pros

The company has solid products and good engineers. The salary and benefits are competitive for a company of that size. The Bedford office is in a nice building with an on-site gym and cafeteria. The IT systems and infrastructure are decently well managed and easy to use.

    Cons

The leadership is extremely flighty. The corporate strategy changes almost weekly. The office culture is nasty and backstabbing. There are random layoffs every quarter, no performance reviews or job feedback, and the company has been on a financial slide for years and shows no signs of ever fixing it.

    Advice to Management

Do a better job of creating goals and sticking to them. Be more fair and transparent with the staff.

    Pros

In the beginning, there was great sales leadership with Enterprise-centric strategic thinking and the ability to get into larger opportunities with the data prep tool, which is their bread and butter.
Decent pay and compensation amount and a helpful engineering staff to help get deals across the line.

    Cons

They brought in toxic sales leadership from the top down that systematically destroyed the company from the inside out. Confusing direct and channel strategy, which changed day to day, and no commitment to any strategy longer than a week. The in-the-office politics eroded any good feeling the company used to have.

A very toxic sales environment to the point of being unhealthy with an overwhelming back office cattiness.

    Advice to Management

Senior leadership outside of sales is great. Please don't let the market or the board push you around and hire toxic sales leadership that end up pushing talent away and doing the exact opposite of the original intention. Stay focused on prep and the legacy the company spent years building and Datawatch could be a huge success.

I worked at Datawatch full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good product, smart technical support, innovative product development. Datawatch provides a data solution for harvesting data from just about anywhere, and writing that data to flat files or relational databases which is very valuable to companies with older legacy systems. They also an interesting, general purpose, data visualization technology that works with data at rest, or data in motion which is applicable to manufacturing, internet of things (IoT), or financial markets.

    Cons

Datawatch has made some marketing and corporate direction missteps in the past couple of years. Their visualization solution is not as easy to use as the market leader(s) in this space, and leading with this solution takes them out of the game. They have alienated their sales force by restructuring comp-plans, shrinking territories from geographic to named accounts, and micro-managing activities.

There is a lot of uncertainty in the company due to a stated desire to be acquired.

    Advice to Management

Get back to a sales environment like it was 2 years ago.

    Pros

The company has the energy of a start-up with 20 years of history and solid finances. Focused on a growing market with strong customers and a differentiated product.

    Cons

Competitive market that requires a lot of market awareness. Self service data prep is an early, evolving market. Platform vs best of breed approach

    Advice to Management

Begin to showcase the culture. It's a great place to work. Candidates need to know

    Advice to Management

Keep encouraging your employees to be all that they can be.

I worked at Datawatch full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The company has a lot of very quality people working for it. People are generally supportive of one another and working towards a common goal.

    Cons

Unfortunately the company has a lot of work to do with its product. While data analytics is expected to be a growing industry, the space is incredibly crowded with newcomers all the time. As usual more developers, faster improvements, new ideas are necessary to stay ahead.

    Advice to Management

Growth has been a continual problem. Don't make it worse by sugar coating and telling new hires that they will have no problem making their number. No one has been making their number for quite some time. Come up with achievable goals and then execute.
