Best company I've ever worked for

Oct 5, 2020 - Software Engineer III in Maplewood, NJ
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Excellent co-workers, great learning opportunities. No jerks in the organization at all. Strong focus on win-win-win opportunities for the business, the client, and the individual consultant. Upper management is genuinely interested in my career growth and development. Excellent coaching for those of us that are new to enterprise consulting. They treat people like people. Directive from the top to only hire people that are decent human beings that you want to work with; we never hire below our standards just to fill client reqs.

      Cons

Some of the client work terrible, but that's how consulting is at times. Some clients just want you to shut up and deliver, even if what you are delivering is garbage by design, and your job turns into staff aug. The NY/NJ branch is stuck in a bit of chicken/egg problem with growth.

Great respect for consultant's work experience, good learning opportunities

Jun 17, 2020 - Principal Consultant in Chicago, IL
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Nice benefits package, especially health coverage; Great colleagues, very professional, with a wealth and variety of experience, enthusiastic about collaborating, and really supportive of each other; Excellent learning and professional growth opportunities - lots of training to participate in, including professional certifications; Dedicated leadership from enterprise level and branch level, very involved and passionate; Opportunities to contribute to the branch/enterprise as competency lead, team manager, vertical lead, committee chair, instructor, and more.

      Cons

Some of the engagements do feel more like staff aug, but the consultants still bring their expertise and leadership to the client teams even in those situations; Bonus structure is minimal, but salary and benefits overall are competitive; Personal time is required to participate in any extra learning or ancillary activities beyond client billable time, so it's good to know that going in; Big commute to certain clients depending on where you live.

      Middle of the Road

Oct 11, 2019 - Consultant in Atlanta, GA

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Good work/life balance. Quarterly company events, some happy hours and social events. Decent Salary. Annual promotion/raise consideration. Amazing healthcare. Honestly kind people.

      Cons

I didn’t stick around long, due to a great offer elsewhere, but these are the things I saw: Uncertain career development. Staff aug/contractor work. PTO is one bucket - holiday, sick, etc. accrued over the year, so very easy to go negative depending on hire date. Confusing management structure. More likely than not, working on a project that doesn’t fit your skill set. Small client list.

      Staff Aug with good Medical

Jul 15, 2014 - Consultant in Minneapolis, MN
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Top notch medical insurance, others are mediocre at best. 401K match is so-so and 10 days per year of PTO is lowest in industry. Co-workers are talented. Local delivery model is great except when your client needs you to travel, in which case you travel for as long as needed. Salary is competitive going in so negotiate well because subsequent raises are mediocre at best unless you're brown-nosing the leaders which may get you a promotion and a bigger raise.

      Cons

Daugherty is a staff aug company that tries to sell itself as a consultancy on par with big 4. 90% of the work is in staff aug capacity. Most of the work (70-80%) is at express scripts; true for both this branch and the company overall. Engagements are dictated by client needs, not consultant's skills, relevant experience or career goals. Work-life balance is 70% dictated by the client, 30% by Daugherty. In addition to billing 40-60 hours at the client, Daugherty requires 'volunteering' on extra-curricular committees to further the branch. This 'volunteering' is heavily factored into annual reviews, basically it's either 'volunteer' or get screwed when it comes to a raise. Internal training is a joke and external training is not paid for.

Excellent consulting company where you are only limited by your skills and motivation

Oct 7, 2013 - Senior Manager in Atlanta, GA
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

The Daugherty Atlanta office provides an environment in which you are only limited by your own motivation. People who are driven to succeed and to help the branch improve itself are those that quickly climb the ladder. Some of the reviews have mentioned that Daugherty is just a staff aug firm with no projects. Nonsense. There are any number of full lifecycle application development or business process improvement projects. Not to mention many ad hoc management consulting projects like organizational effectiveness assessments, BI or Mobility roadmaps, etc. Also, promotions are very possible. In the last two years alone, there have been at least five promotions to Principal and one promotion to Director. For a small to mid-size branch, that is just fine.

      Cons

Two-week starting vacation policy is pretty laughable. This should be negotiable during hiring. No reason for this limitation at all and it promotes the staff aug perception that some seem to have. Training during normal hours would show an investment in the consultants.

More and more a STAFF AUG shop! Political environment

Sep 10, 2014 - Consultant in Saint Louis, MO

      Business Outlook

      Pros

The quality of consultants is pretty good. They've done a good job of mining solid people. Pay scale is very competitive but lack of starting vacation

      Cons

Will ask you to travel and put it all on your own credit card. The main office is quite a clique and very political. Leadership is taking company from a project-based, management consulting shop to pure staff aug. Many consultants on an island at clients as there is not much consultant care employed by the leaders. Vacation policy is very out-dated.

No support staff aug, pretending to be true consulting

Jan 11, 2015 - Project Manager in Saint Louis, MO
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Good Health Insurance. No travel for consultants

      Cons

PTO policy leaves you earning even Holidays, not just vacations. Not enough time off. This is staff aug company that sells you on the premise of the true consulting and managed teams. The only difference from any staff aug company is that you will have too many 'highly encouraged' after hours meetings, and training sessions. You will be scored on how many you attend, but you will not be paid for any. When you are at the client site, you will be left to fend for yourself. Engagement Managers are not to be seen or heard from, no support even for constantly escalated issues. Your skills will not be utilized as Daugherty puts you in the positions that you either way overqualified for or do not have any experience in.

Great people, lack of corporate vision and strategy

      Pros

Very good people, great training opportunities. Solid branch leadership and account management. Good reputation around STL with a solid account base.

      Cons

The branch evolved from project-based work to staff aug. with a limited ability to move from account to account (the reason I became a consultant). Lack of enterprise vision and goals as well as a defined career path to leadership. A few bad leaders in the EM / LOS roles that need to go. The owner is not a strong leader and demotivating.

Good Ole Boy Company with Serious Lack of Integrity Issues

Jan 2, 2013 - Senior Consultant in Atlanta, GA
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Decent Base Compensation, Good Benefits, and Overtime Pay Great Sales Pitch Serious 'drinking culture' at the Atlanta office. (If you like to drink.)

      Cons

Although Daugherty claims that North Highland is their closest competitor in the Atlanta Area, most services they provide could be handled by a temp agency. They provide all staff aug work at their 4 major local clients - not project based as claimed - and will take any opportunity as long as it is billable. Encouraged by team management to bill clients for Daugherty internal work - in my opinion just one instance of integrity issues with client billing. I've observed that the most successful consultants at Daugherty are those that the clients are most unhappy with. Serious 'drinking culture' at the Atlanta office. Must enjoy networking at company socials to find your next opportunity.

      Daugherty Business Solutions Response

      Corporate Recruiter

Thank you for your review of the Daugherty Atlanta branch. I'm sorry you did not have a positive experience here. While some of our advisory services can seem similar, and often times be confused as staff augmentation, that is a very small portion of what we do. We spend the majority of our time focused on management consulting, IT strategy, custom development and managed services. As for out of office activities, we do have monthly, 100% optional gatherings for our consultants and their families to get to know one another. These events can include picnics, aquarium trips, bowling, and happy hours. Daugherty's culture is driven by a committee based model, where our employees have a say so in how the company is operated and run. We value your feedback and will use it to continue improving our culture for our current and future employees.

      Atlanta POV

Aug 5, 2012 - Manager in Atlanta, GA
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Opulent Buckhead office All of leadership (Directors, VP) from former Big 4 (heavy on E&Y), working toward getting the career mgmt process to be similar Local work only, with new option for travel if desired Salary, health plan Great for Custom Dev (.net, java) and PM work Paid OT

      Cons

Lead Recruiter, a great saleswoman, is a bit misleading on expectations Many levels, expect to start at levels below your prior employer If you are technical manager, you won't be told, but should expect to write code. Reality is, large amount of 'staff aug' (they won't call it that) work. BI LOS - limited enterprise level, thought leadership BI work. Mostly DM layer work or could be anything to do with moving data around (e.g. application integration) Directors (most) are not 'though leaders', but account executives who can sell services.
