I worked at David Barton Gym full-time for more than 2 years

        Pros

The gym was always clean and not crowded.

        Cons

The company had 6 different general managers in the 15 months that I worked there. They don’t look to hire from within the company and always brought in outsiders to run the gym causing massive conflicts with pre existing employees. They lack structure, format and transparency. They like to dangle carrots in front of you and when you hit goal they restructure their sales goals. It is the most poorly run company I’ve...

            Pros

Easy Communication with Management, Friendly co-workers, nice facility and environment

            Cons

As an instructor it is challenging to get scheduled to teach more than one or two classes a week. This is definitely not a place to hope for full time work.

Poor pay structure, Little opportunity to grow within company, Poor communication from Corporate, Poorly distributed budget and marketing, LONG Hours

            Advice to Management

Listen to your employees from each location and take their input on what marketing tactics and overall atmosphere works best for each individual city, rather than trying to force the brand in places that it won't thrive in. I worked at David Barton Gym full-time

            Pros

you can wear whatever you want and work out during your work day. The facilities are amazing.

            Cons

Management is not transparent. They drastically exaggerate (lie) about your income potential. Cash strapped. Paychecks bounced. Federal Lawsuit settlement went unpaid. Abruptly ceased operations leaving hundreds unemployed 3 days before Christmas.

            Advice to Management

            Karma is going to suck.

I worked at David Barton Gym full-time for more than 6 years

            Pros

They provide benefits for trainers, which is unheard of in personal trainer business. The training department was lead by Celebrity trainer David Barton. Best tutelage in house in the business for body transformation.

            Cons

Company coud not survive competitive pressures and filed chapter 7 bankruptcy. Now all original gyms are shut down. Did not give any warning of gym closure, shut down owing members and employees thousands of dollars in services, salaries and even personal valuables in lockers.

            Advice to Management

Try to actually utilize advertising targeted at local markets. Have an adevrertising budget. Understand your local markets better. Take better care in background checks for management employees. Pereserve your company image, and work to build better member relations through better communication. Keep facilities in better working order. Keep facilities cleaner espeially locker rooms.
