I worked at David Jones full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Discount on sale items...the only way to afford their prices

    Cons

There are bullies in the PMO, managers that want you to be a muppet. "Do as I say, and Limit your Opinions" were 2 phrases I heard time and time again. They don't want to hear the truth, their projects are set to fail. It's a GONG show!!

    Advice to Management

Stop Bullying your employees, and learn to listen. They have more experience running projects and can see right through your condescending attitudes.

    Pros

Only benefits are staff discount and meeting other lovely retail staff.

    Cons

Please don't work at David Jones Doncaster, management bullies employees and don't care about them at all. I have seen so many staff resign in such a short period and have seen them reduced to tears from the bullying (cosmetic department). You won't be happy here, so please don't come to DJ Doncaster. They constantly watch you do every move and if you make a mistake they make a big deal out of it. They also never encourage you and push you to sell DJ cards.

    Advice to Management

Abandon your traditional ways of your organisational culture and structure.

    Pros

Managers are paid very well for Retail, but be aware that this company expects blood in return. Your health, both mental and physical, will suffer, as will your personal relationships

    Cons

    Zero work-life balance.

Managers expected to work an infinite number of hours to make up for the fact that Frontline Staff hours have had to be reduced - Managers don't get paid extra and don't receive the time off back.

Leave applications to attend funerals often declined.

Senior Management actively participates in gossip and creating false rumours.

Expect to be subjected to the 'silent treatment' by Senior Management when returning from Sick Leave.

Bullying tactics employed by Regional Management, who take pride in intimidating Frontline Staff and Sales Managers to the point of making them cry on the shop floor.

    - Ridiculous expectations
    - No praise for working well or doing a good job
    - Management sucked
    - Treat you like another number/like they can replace you.
    - hard to progess through the company

    Advice to Management

get to know your staff and maybe understand their lives to make better judgement on situations

    Pros

    Cons

Instore management are disgusting and treat staff badly, they also laugh about them behind their backs and are just so unprofessional. Managers should be made to move from store to store.

    Advice to Management

All managers in all stores be transferred to different stores every few years. If they choose not to they should be made to step down from their position to give someone else a chance to move forward. Stop making us open up American Express Cards that's are what banks are for.

    Pros

Lovely people on the floor to work with.

    Cons

Instore Management is a joke. You have to impress management personally rather than professionally to get a promotion eapecially in chadstone store where they really don't care about budgets and merchandising.

    Advice to Management

please get out of your offices and try to be on the floor so you'd know the pain sales assistants go through.

    Pros

David jones allowed me to transfer from one state to another which was great, good discounts, self managed working environment and they train and develop you so you grow with your role.

    Cons

Way too much emphasis on the David jones credit card, I felt I was pressured to sell the cards to customers who were not suited to the card .. The role can get quite boring at times and menial. Sales budgets were always not realistic and very hard to reach which caused a lot of tension between staff & management

    Advice to Management

Less focus on that terrible credit card and unrealistic sales budgets & more emphasis and training staff on products and associated derives
