I have been working at Davis Vision full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The company offers a lot of overtime in their Call Center, they offer plenty of paid time off in the form of vacation time, holidays, personal time and sick time, Call Center positions are union positions.

    Cons

There is favoritism, not enough time is given off the phone to resolve customer issues and there is too much management turnover, which has resulted in a deteriorating company culture.

    Advice to Management

Put your money where your mouth is. You all want to lead by example so show your employees how to handle difficult customers on the phone by letting them listen to calls handled by supervisors instead of just being overly critical and nitpick at everything they say to a customer. Also, focus on quality, instead of quantity. Management does not seem to care about resolving customer issues in an efficient way. All they...

I worked at Davis Vision full-time

    Pros

Pay is okay. My supervisor was fantastic. There are some truly genuine and knowledgeable people there.

    Cons

Lost my first check. Paid me only 25% of my second. During my time there, there was someone in a supervisory role (won't specify which department) who would flirt and be extremely inappropriate with many of the young girls in my training class. That individual even texted one of the girls asking to make plans outside of work, even though she was in a union position. Apparently this individual has been there for several...

    Advice to Management

Stop messing up pay, stick with one trainer instead of rotating between four for an entire class, and fire the creep. Turnover will not stop until davis starts actively supporting their employees, instead of favoring seniority and thereby creating an unsafe work environment.

I worked at Davis Vision full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

There is a good mix of people and pockets of good people.

    Cons

Company pay is based on retail industry (so below industry level for insurance) though it is an insurance agency. Company has had 3 presidents and 4 changes in senior leadership in 5 years. This caused much frustration because a new leadership meant a new way of doing things with little to no direction/standards of administration.

    Advice to Management

    Consistency and support.

I have been working at Davis Vision

    Pros

Benefits include free vision. Overtime is available often. Higher paying positions open up regularly.

    Cons

Short breaks, not enough sick time, salary is not equivalent to work performed.

I have been working at Davis Vision full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

At the level of programmer or QA specialist, there is relative job stability. If you keep your head down to stay out of trouble and can deal with dysfunction, there can be good days.

    Cons

Erosion of Benefits under HVHC (parent company) December 2012 • Paid holidays reduced from 13 to 8 per year. • One of the paid holidays is "Fiesta Day", which is pertinent only to associates in San Antonio. Latham associates are not forced to take Fiesta Day off; rather, they can take a day off of their choice as long as that day is within two weeks before or after Fiesta Day. • Floating holidays (birthday plus...

I worked at Davis Vision full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

If you were at Davis under the Davis' rule, it was a good place to work.

    Cons

There is no longer concern for employees. Benefits are not great anymore. Compensation is slipping. Pretty much everything is a con at this point.

I have been working at Davis Vision

    Pros

There are some nice employee discounts. The IT staff in Latham are intelligent, friendly and respectful.

    Cons

There is no career path or chance for advancement and the raises are pathetic. Multiple departments are understaffed and spread thin. A lot of employees are burnt out, underpaid and have lost confidence in the company. Promises have been made that will not be fulfilled. HVHC has ruined this company beyond repair. The company currently has a "F" rating on the BBB. The poor choices made by senior management is ruining...

    Advice to Management

If there is any hope to save the company, you need to hire a VP of IT in Latham with enough authority to do their job. A lot of the issues in Latham can only be solved by spending money.

I have been working at Davis Vision

    Pros

A regular paycheck. Some of the people that have been around a long time still have the old "whatever it takes" attitude. Those in the union jobs seem to do pretty well at that end of the skill/pay range.

    Cons

Clueless upper/middle management. Health care benefits used to be really good & free, just $20 copays, minimal expenses. Now we have to pay premiums, larger copays, and 10-20% for all healthcare. I'm sure more delightful cuts are in store for next year. HR is especially clueless and malicious.

    Advice to Management

I think a lot of the problems are from the ambiguous HVHC relationship. The HVHC CEO is from ECCA so the perception is that Davis is the ugly stepchild. The Davis CEO (Steve Holden) is new, has no history with Davis (except as a competitor), but nothing can be done about that since all of the old-time senior people at Davis are now gone. Obviously the old Davis culture cannot be re-grown, but the HR reign of terror needs...
