I have been working at DayNine Consulting full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    • We are a rapidly growing company with a lot of opportunities. • Core values (D9 Beliefs) are very in-line with my own which makes it a great place to work. • There is also lot of freedom and flexibility with the job. • New total rewards program is now offer unlimited PTO including a $500 bonus for taking 5 consecutive days off in a year. • Opportunities to make a large impact through out the company.

    Cons

As with most consulting jobs travel can be pretty heavy. Depending on your role and the client you can spend up to 80% of your time on the road.

    Advice to Management

We need to find ways to develop our internal tools so that we can be more efficient consultants.

"Does not feel like a small firm anymore"

    StarStarStarStarStar
    Current Employee - Consultant

I have been working at DayNine Consulting full-time

    Pros

*Great place to start your career. *Company is willing to invest in training you. *Company is very flexible on where/when you work. *Smart, friendly, and fun group of people to work with.

    Cons

*Recent total rewards roll-out was a joke. Company hired a full-time resource to do market research which found that consultants were paid under market yet still yielded no increases to consultants. *Salary ceiling for L4 consultants went from 120k to 119k while RVP's went from 225k to 260k. Way to listen to what the people wanted! *No longer feels like a small company, feels much more like a larger firm where... more and more rules are forced upon us. *All attention is currently on the new Nashville hub and seems to ignore all others. *Company will put you on multiple projects at a time with competing deadlines. *Company makes minimal effort to staff people on local projects. *Company will push you too far. They will expect you to push back when you've reached your max. If you don't speak up, they'll keep on pushing. *Lots of 1/1 go-lives will ruin your holidays. *Company obsesses over forecasted versus billed hours per week. Any forecasted hour you didn't work is viewed as 'lost revenue' and they demand to know what happened, even if you billed over 40 hours that week. *Lots of top talent leaving with only college grads coming in to replace them.

I have been working at DayNine Consulting full-time for more than a year

    Pros

DayNine has rolled out enhanced PTO. Which means, PTO is encouraged, expected, needed. They recognize the benefits of having their employees "recharge the batteries." The catch? Simple: be thoughtful, don't put the project at risk, plan ahead, work with your manager, your client partner, your project manager to mitigate risk. There are additional innovative, competitive changes to the Total Rewards program that are... extremely employee-friendly. This place was already a great place to work, but never a company willing to stand still, DayNine continues to innovate and grow, and what a ride it's going to be!

    Cons

Our consultants are highly skilled, and highly desired. So you get pulled in many different directions, which can be frustrating. It takes highly skilled management and staffing teams to do this right. We're growing, and that means we're learning. But things are always improving in the staffing areas. So, if you want steady, 9-5, cookie cutter type work, don't look this way. If you want a challenging, rewarding job... where you'll be stretched and supported--check it out.

    Pros

Having been in Consulting for many years I have never quite encountered a culture so unique and so forward thinking. Coupled with a strong critical mass, our super high growth going forward is almost intoxicating. It is a great place for those who want more than a job -- an experience !

    Cons

DayNine is a busy employer! You will work hard but we get to play hard, and, you need to be ready for entrepreneurship!

    Advice to Management

Stay focused on hiring the best and brightest and protect our culture at all costs.

    Pros

Great Place to Work - rapid growth that opens up huge opportunities to people wanting to ramp quickly and make an impact in a hot market/industry.

    Cons

None! They market themselves to customers as the 'alternative to the big guys' and the same concept applies to employees too.

I have been working at DayNine Consulting full-time for more than a year

    Pros

DayNine is a premier Workday partner and is growing rapidly creating a lot of opportunity for the company overall and for the individual employees. This is a great place to work if you are a high performer that likes to be challenged, grow, and are passionate about what you do. The culture and people make DayNine an amazing place to work and the "nine core beliefs" are truly integrated into the culture. I have... consulted for many years and have never worked at a company that is so focused on making sure their customers are happy and understanding the key to this success is making sure it's people are happy, challenged and have opportunity to develop and innovate. It is all about getting the right people on the bus and making each person realize their full potential. You need to be independent but it is a supportive culture in that people are willing to help each other even when they are busy. You need to work hard but have fun in the process. Workday is an innovative cloud solution using cutting edge technology. Working at DayNine gives you the opportunity to gain expertise in Workday and also the opportunity to partner with Workday on product development and innovation.

    Cons

DayNine has a good structure in place and methodology and procedures are well defined. However, it is also a very innovative company which can lead to change through improvements. Workday also continues to evolve as a product so consultants need to constantly be on top of new functionality. As a result, DayNine is a great fit for people that enjoy continuing to learn and to develop. It is not a good fit for those... that do not want to keep learning or want to work in a highly structured environment that will be predictable over a long period.

    Pros

Personal growth. Professional growth. Caring, sharing, hard-working, fun-loving, high-caliber colleagues who share solid core values. Opportunities to innovate. Opportunities to contribute. Opportunities to lead. Opportunities to learn from successful consultants how to become a successful consultant. Hard work AND fun. Very open, honest, and transparent. Benefits great for individuals. Experienced... management that is passionate about serving clients and having DayNine be a great place to work. Singular focus on Workday. Growing market share in a growing market. Growing in all Workday market segments, in all geographies globally.

    Cons

No place to hide. If you don't want the pros, you won't be happy with the work they require. No place to wait for detailed direction on what to do next. No place to wait to be assigned. It won't come. You won't be happy. You need to figure it out. If you make that attempt, you will find plenty willing to help and no lack of work. Benefits expensive for families. If you are not performing, for whatever reason, you... will find out about it directly. You are expected to play by the core beliefs. If you can't or don't, you will not be comfortable here.

I have been working at DayNine Consulting full-time

    Pros

The lifestyle of Workday consulting is the main pro. You have flexible hours, exciting technology with interesting work, and opportunities to create close bonds with co-workers. DayNine makes a point of allowing fun during work hours: ping pong tables in the offices, happy hours, drinks while at your desk, etc. The office environment itself is very relaxed and friendly. If you are looking to break in to the Workday... consulting world, DayNine is a great place to start, and the market is hot with several years of growth ahead.

    Cons

The cons come in when comparing DayNine to its competitors. They market their small-company, startup-like culture as a differentiator, but in my opinion this is not something you feel while actually on the job. 2-3 years ago I believe it was true, but DayNine is now large enough that you won't be developing personal relationships with executives or be involved in strategic planning. The employees who got in early... have strong connections and are highly regarded, but if you are considering joining now it is very much head down, grind out the hours for your client, just like the bigger firms. The problem with the situation is that DayNine now has no cultural benefit over the bigger firms, but has some drawbacks. The most glaring to me is the lack of emphasis on actual consulting, both skills and tasks. Consultants are not explicitly trained on how to manage meetings, respond to client requests, set objectives and expectations ahead of time, etc. Creative thinking and being able to design the system to better serve the customer usually goes unnoticed and is never brought up as an expectation or reason for advancement. The focus of the company is very much on the deadlines and delivering what is set out in the scope of work, not looking for opportunities to add value. If you are looking to improve your own leadership and consulting skills, you will develop more slowly here than at a competitor. You will also often find things down the line in a project that were not accounted for because the overall vision was lacking, meaning more long nights and work on weekends. Competitors also offer more vacation and seem to offer better pay. Bottom line: if you are looking to learn how to add value to a client and create lasting business relationships, this is not the place. If you are looking to learn Workday and get into the market, DayNine is a great option.

    Advice to Management

Focus on the culture you want to create explicitly. It seems like you are still relying on the culture being transmitted by osmosis, which does not work now that DayNine has grown.

I have been working at DayNine Consulting full-time

    Pros

Customers are absolutely the #1 priority, which I love. And they don't do sneaky business things to win deals, or bash other partners. DayNine is a great place to work to gain lots of experience and work. There are a lot of incredibly smart people at DayNine, and the company is growing by leaps and bounds. Org structure is relatively flat, which is great. You can see the CEO walking around, and sit in a desk... just like everyone else. They've tried really hard through their growth to maintain their culture and are doing well at it. DayNine definitely wants to do what's right by their employees.

    Cons

Hub culture can be challenging with different groups of people, especially for some offices. Perceived compensation issues are lingering, whether perceived or true. If you want structure, this isn't for you. You will be asked to make things happen without a ton of guidance at times. Definitely better than it was, but it's a self-starter attitude and culture.

    Advice to Management

Total Rewards re-structure will be helpful to tailoring to different employee populations. Continue to listen to your people.
