    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at DeKalb County Police Department full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The department has several areas in which to gain different kinds of police experience.

    Cons

Sometimes it's hard to transfer to other positions unless you know someone already there who can vouch for you. Also disciplinary action is not consistent.

    Advice to Management

    Be fair at all times.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at DeKalb County Police Department full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Excellent police academy and instructors. Good training and you'll get great experience as a new officer. Many different specialized units to get into if your interested (SWAT, K9, Motorcycles, Helicopter, DUI, Bomb Squad, Training, Narcotics, Homicide, Auto Theft).

    Cons

No take-home cars. Very dirty high-mileage patrol cars. Haven't had a raise in 7 years (not even a cost of living raise). Rookies training rookies. Low morale. Very hard for patrol officers to get time off or approved for training classes. Many newer officers are just there for a paycheck. A lot of pressure for patrol officers to write tickets.

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to analyze crime and just put officers on the street and let them police. Back-up your officers and stop hanging them out to dry. Seriously try to boost morale and stick up for the officers at the Board of Commissioners meetings.

    Recommends

I worked at DeKalb County Police Department full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Large department with many opportunities to gain knowledge and to advance. Continuing education is a must along with a proactive attitude. Training is excellent and they have good equipment.

    Cons

The new command staff are not confident leaders. They worry about internal issues more than fighting crime. Not a lot of backing from supervisors.

    Advice to Management

The people that are working in Dekalb are good people and not out to get your job. Back your people and put the emphasis on catching the bad guys. The blog should be ignored and all of the officers, supervisors and command staff should come together as one team.

I worked at DeKalb County Police Department

    Pros

Good Company to work for, but they will hang you out to dry.

    Cons

Furlough days, and it seems as if internal affairs is on a witch hunt to fire as many people as possible

    Advice to Management

Management needs to step up and fight for the rights of the officers, instead of agreeing with everything that comes down from internal affairs.
