I worked at DePuy Synthes full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits, you'll learn about the products that save people lives, overtime in other departments is great when you need extra money

    Cons

Sometimes overtime on weekends is "mandatory", co workers will always think they know what's best, nothing about the company is bad just the people that work there

I worked at DePuy Synthes full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I loved working with my coworkers, many of us had been with Synthes 10+ years. Salary and benefits were good. DePuy Synthes the first couple of years were good.

    Cons

Synthes was purchased by J&J (a.k.a. DePuy) and after a few years reorganized and downsized a large % of employees, many who had been there 10+ years. Morale was bad as we continued to see coworkers being let go. Big corporations apparently don't value loyalty, just the bottom line.

    Advice to Management

Of course reorganization is part of business, but eliminating jobs of the people who built the company in lieu of contract workers so you can save on benefits really doesn't align with the J&J credo... which they liked to refer to but doesn't really ring true.

I worked at DePuy Synthes full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    1. Good salary and excellent benefits with the parent corporation
    2. Robust Health focus culture and an engaging safety culture
    3. Opportunities exist for lateral position changes and in some cases with advancement changes, if slots open, without the need to relocate

    Cons

    1. The intense competitive pressure within the medical device production sector of the health care industry and its trajectory of small to flat growth in the immediate future has negative impacts on enterprise business growth prospects.
    2. The US and Global Quality Regulation and compliance, together with an accelerating level of safety culture initiatives mandate very high levels of workforce training. Management has communicated training completion always as the top priority, but in practice, many aspects of work task deadlines have greater weighting. Conflicts within the workforce result, and training gaps correction dominate activities during pre-audit preparation and end of the year team project close outs. As a short example, I completed 300 + training elements in a 3 year time period.
    3. The enterprise operates under a public warning letter from a primary regulator. The nature of the warning letter represents a risk to the the viability of product sale and distribution globally.
    4. The pace of continued process and culture change within the enterprise franchise that I was employed, represents a significant stress for the longer term employees who have participated in two separate corporate acquisitions. These individuals with higher levels of expertise continue to leave the local enterprise because they are not pleased with the trajectory ahead.
    5. Competitive cost pressures have brought in a path of austerity measures and cost reduction objectives defined for the year ahead. This directional change does not incorporate any advanced recalibration of workload/work tempo or other site department deliverables. The austerity measures under this context are disruptive to the organization as it continues to meet other strategic alignment measures requested by the parent corporation.

    Advice to Management

Local Senior Enterprise Leadership deserves great thanks for serving the local enterprise well.
    1. Please continue to intelligently follow the decision making stewardship the parent organization's credo processes.
    2. I have just edited this section to remove specific advice because senior leadership is very familiarity with issues that they must address. Open communication and closed loop feedback processes exist in the organization to support taking the pulse of the workforce and understanding processes are inefficient, stressful, or out of proportion to the local enterprise history or risk profile.

    Pros

Decent compensation, Friendly environment, Approachable management

    Cons

So much red tape, most projects take far too long if they're completed at all.
Spend a lot of time proving your worth through analytics.
Seems like they execute a re-org every few years.

    Pros

Air conditioned some of the time, semi-clean, and a handful of decent operators, lot of vacation/time off(you'll need it)
